The Jack Munro (vs. Munroe) who fought Jeffries for the title may not be this guy:

The Jack Munro I know of died, did he not, at the beginning of World War I in Northern France. Or is my AUgust 1915 newspaper account premature? It reports that his name was listed as being one of the soldiers killed. But I have not researched the papers beyond this time, so maybe - like the 1942 newspaper accounts that reported Schmeling as being dead after a paratrooper landing in ? Italy? - this paper is wrong, and that Munro continued on. Anyone know?
The newspaper reports that Munro played football on the Butte, Montana (college?) team, and while doing so visited Jack O'Brien's training camp, and got interested in boxing. It also reports that Jeffries was his last opponent before he quit and went north to prospect for gold. He later became mayor of Elk City (is that in Canada somewhere?).

Gee -- somhwere on the CBZ board I wrote about this -- and then somebody pointed out a book that was written about him.
My recollection is I found later newspaper reports that said he was regaining use of his arm after being injured in the war.
Somebody will ahve to check the CBZ board to find that thread

It WAS a premature newspaper report. Just this weekend I was researching later editions, and they reported an interview Munroe had given, circa early 1916, saying that he had been shot at four times. The first three bullets missed, but the fourth severed the sub-clavical artery. He almost died he said, and spent weeks recuperating, but had lost use of his right arm. It wasn't clear if it had been amputated, tho'.
And, does anyone know whatever happened to Jimmy Britt of California? Last I read, he had moved to Australia, joined a regiment there, and had been sent to fight at Gallipoli.
