Mitchell v Rios
Mitchell v Rios
http://news.boxrec.com/news/2011/mitche ... murray-win
So this is looking like a possibility for the new season. Personally I believe that this would be suicide for Mitchell it would be Katsidis part 2. Rios is an absolute monster currently and Mitchell just doesnt deal that well with pressure. He had some hairy moments against Murray and was demolished by Katsidis. Rios is from the same mould.
After the comments made in BM about Darren Barker and the Martinez fight by Allegedly it seems to me that this fight would also be a fight that Mitchell would stand little chance in.
Opinions?

If he struggled to hold off Katsidis i think he'd do the same with Rios. He was brilliant against Murray but Rios is looking so destructive it's a big task.

Like I said on the other thread, using his Promotor's view on how a boxer's career should be facilitated, there is no way he would be allowed to take this fight.
Re: Mitchell v Rios
I don't think he's massively overrated. He's just very exciting and teak tough. On paper it looks like a tough task for Mitchell.Camcas wrote:Another American who is massively overated, i give Mitchell quite a big chance here

Warren wont make the fight anyway so it's a moot point

rios would walk all over mitchell. ![[icon_knockout.gif] :KO:](./images/smilies/icon_knockout.gif)
Re: Mitchell v Rios
Rios is a genuinely hard bastard at lightweight.
He's no Floyd Mayweather, but he's the genuine article.
It's a fight Kevin would certainly be the underdog in and with good reason.

Re: Mitchell v Rios
excuse the pun but it literally would be BAM BAM for mitchell and the fight would be over quite quickly, perhaps in 1 round
Re: Mitchell v Rios
I like the thought of this exciting match, it's a huge task for Mitchell, but he's just come through with flying colours against a very tough, agressive, pressure fighter in Murray.
There's no bigger stage than America on the same bill as Pacquiao v Marquez, and Mitchell deserves a big reward for his triumph over Murray. Will Warren let this happen? I think he should and let Mitchell try to become a big star.

Why is Rios massively overrated?Camcas wrote:Another American who is massively overated, i give Mitchell quite a big chance here

Just saw another thread on this.
Someone predicted "Rios by death"
Seems like not many backing a Mitchell upset

Re: Mitchell v Rios
Because he is seen as invincible at lightweight when he is really quite beatable, and i think he is a fighter who looks very good against weaker opposition, but will struggle when someone can take his powercrusader wrote:Why is Rios massively overrated?Camcas wrote:Another American who is massively overated, i give Mitchell quite a big chance here

And Mitchell is the man to take his power?!Camcas wrote:Because he is seen as invincible at lightweight when he is really quite beatable, and i think he is a fighter who looks very good against weaker opposition, but will struggle when someone can take his powercrusader wrote:Why is Rios massively overrated?Camcas wrote:Another American who is massively overated, i give Mitchell quite a big chance here

Frank doesn't do tough fights anymore

Re: Mitchell v Rios
Acosta seemed to have a fair bit of success on the punch and move, granted he had fast hands but Mitchell packs some poke of his own....I don't think Mitchell is strong enough though.
Rios is exciting and destined for big things IMO but he's the typical pressure fighter, takes some and overwhelms but that style can get picked apart by the right fighter.

Re: Mitchell v Rios
Jeff Thomas, hear what you're saying but Mitchell-Murray looked a pretty tough fight from my view.
Re: Mitchell v Rios
I agree - same goes for Degale v Groves (although i accept most people, including me, thought it would be an easy night's work for Degale).THEBUTCH wrote:Jeff Thomas, hear what you're saying but Mitchell-Murray looked a pretty tough fight from my view.
I think the truth is that in the current climate, Sky just wont take walk-overs anymore - and rightly so. Fury v Chisora on FIVE PROVED that the public retain a great appetite for truly competitive matches (and nothing less).

Maybe Kev should go for it, he takes a lot of punches in the tough fights, so might not get much better. Go for it while his confidence is up, and maybe Rios, big puncher that he is, might be a bit over rated.

I agree, nothing to lose has Mitchell. Admittedly I think Rios would eventually catch upto him but if he gives a good account of himself even in a losing effort, he'll get more opportunities as a result.MightyWarrior wrote:Maybe Kev should go for it, he takes a lot of punches in the tough fights, so might not get much better. Re: Mitchell v Rios
I think Mitchell did wonderfully well to withstand an onslaught from Murray before grinding him down and stopping him.
But let's not go overboard here, Rios is easily superior to both Murray and Prescott in pretty much every department.
There's only Marquez at 135 who I'd favour against him. The legend would take him apart and stop him, but the rest are asking for trouble facing him IMO.
