PRIME MIKE TYSON VS PRIME LARRY HOLMES

Post by BrocktonBlockbuster49 »

who do u think wins???

i am one of those firm believers the same thing would have happened if holmes were in his prime. holmes as a great chin but i dont think he would be able to take tyson punches if landed on him. tyson had more power than earnie shavers in my opinion. i know holmes said "shavers hit me harder than tyson", but the thing was holmes didnt remember being hit by mike tyson cause he was hit so hard. he probably mistakened mike tyson for mike weaver.

I think tyson would be able to get inside holmes and land big punches early and stop him. thats a tough style for holmes in my opinion.

though i will say if holmes survived his shots and moved to the later rounds he would have a very good chance of winning especially since his reflexes were better. it would be hard for tyson to outpoint holmes over 15 rounds. holmes had a lot of heart , HIS BEST ASSET WAS HIS HEART. so i wouldnt be shocked if holmes survived and outboxed him and stopped ihm late or outpointed him. i just think tyson had a good style to beat holmes and would have capitalized on his advatnagtes. i say Tyson TKO 6

I think young Tyson has all the tools to KO Holmes every time.

Tyson may not have had quite the power of Shavers, but he had plenty of power and could unleash it much more effectively.

I think a young Tyson could KO nearly any heavyweight champion at nearly any point. As far as Holmes is concerned, Tyson would knock him out the same way he did to an old Holmes. Look, Tyson didn't just knock him out cold or anything, he could have gotten up, but he knew that he had never been hit like that by anyone else and was smart enough to stay on his ass.

DAPA I THINK TYSON HAD MORE POWER THAN SHAVERS AND IF NOT MORE 'POWER" HE HAD TEN TIMES MORE FINISHING POWER THAN SHAVERS. SHAVERS COULD NEVER FINISH ANYONE

Larry Holmes of 1979-81, beats Tyson every time. Larry was not a tomato, and Tyson wouldn't hit Larry, and if he did Larry would weather the storm. Just weathering the storm would have taken the fight out of Tyson. Tyson always had trouble with tall boxers. Larry was a cut above most "boxers". The Easton Assasin TKO 10. :TU:

Watch the tape of Tyson against an old Holmes. Larry outboxed Mike and that jab just kept Mike off guard until Tyson caught him. By that time the old Holmes was already starting to blow heavily.

A prime Holmes would have moved all night keeping Tyson off guard with that jab. Yes Tyson would have taken his head off if he connected but, he had to get close enough to land and I don't think that would have happened.

Remember, I don't think we actually saw what Tyson could really do. He fell away after Cus D'Amato died. Without his mentor Tyson went to pieces. Only D'Amato knew how to curb the lion within. The world will never know just how great Tyson could have been. He was past his best at 23-24 years old when most Heavyweights don't mature for another 10 years.

Holmes woud spoil and smother, change the angles, frustrate Tyson and then after about round 6 he'd totally dominate him. Larry is not just going to stand there and let Tyson unload. Holmes' jab bounces Tyson's head around and just disheartens him.

One of Tyson's best displays was against Pinklon Thomas. The difference this time is that Holmes will be throwing more back at him, keeping him on the end of that jab and not lying down. Yes Tyson could catch him and stop him but if these guys fought 5 times then Holmes wins at least 4 of them.

Holmes is a great. He will have rounds in which he gets the better of Tyson and that's when Tyson just falls apart. Larry could be under severe pressure for 2-3 rounds but come out of it and turn the fight around (we know this for sure becasue he did it on an number of occasions) BUT Tyson never did this. He just wasn't able to come back from a hard few rounds. Tyson rates high on power and speed but has one of the weakest hearts of any champion. Larry was a hard man, scared of nobody and skills just don't fade. If they fought now at their current ages Holmes would beat him.

Tyson wouldn't beat any truely great fighter like Holmes...

Holmes had more talent, ring skills, dedication & heart than Tyson ever came close to having...

Anybody who thinks Tyson was something great should go watch the Tyson-Douglas fight...and then watch the two Tyson-Holyfield fights...

Instead of making a 100 excuses for the ear biting jackass...take a good look at what he really was and is...Tyson fanatics base his whole career on two years 1988-89...what about 1990-2005?...what the hell did he do then besides nothing?...I know, I know...he was 'past his prime'...at age 24...without being injured..without a debilitating disease...just done at 24...what utter bull shit...if a baseball player is done at 24, does he make the Hall of Fame?

Some people watch too many '80's highlight reels...and then totally disregard the remainder of his career...let's see...Tyson turns pro in '85...by the end of '86 he gets a piece of the title...by '88 he is undisputed...and in early '90...he is KTFO'd by Buster...he is still only 24 years old...and he never wins another meaningful fight...yeah...now that's an all time great...give me a break already...Tyson was an ear biting loser with no heart...and fornicate all the excuses why... :TU:

This would be a classic boxing Display from larry Holmes.

Holmes would dance around, throw jabs, uppercuts for the first 4 rounds, Tyson would land occassionally, but holmes would tie up and recover, and get back dancing.

From rounds 4-8, EVEN IN HIS PRIME, tysons output lowered, and he would be taking right hands, and jabs time and time over, Tyson swings become wild, and he catches holmes less and less.

From 10 Holmes piles on the pressure, stopping mike on his feet in the 12th

Tyson sure as hell was not the same person when he fought Douglas and if you think he was then that's saying that Douglas was better than Tony Tucker,Pinklon Thomas,Bone Crusher Smith, Tony Tubbs and Michael Spinks?

Tyson lost because Buster was blasting his face with his jab, and not moving away like a coward. Tyson didn't know what the fornicate to do, he had a good showing at the end of the 7th, and during the 8th round... But once Buster came out in the 9th round popping his face relentlessly, Tyson went back into his shell.

Holmes boxes Tyson's ears off and wins a UD. Tyson never had the ability or power to KO anyone at any given time and especially when he fought the better fighters, hence the reason he never had a 100% KO rate :-?

Tyson hit harder than Shavers? That's plain insanity to even suggest such a ridiculous scenario

Tyson never knew what to do when his opponent wasn't scared shitless...anybody with a jab and some boxing talent, who wouldn't be afraid of him could've given him fits...He's always been prone to rage...a guy like Ali, who would relentlessly taunt him, would mind fornicate him till his head exploded...Holmes would methodically chop him down...Louis would've messed him up big time...Joe Frazier, with 10 times the heart, would have drove him crazy...Liston might have beat him while the ref gave instructions with that stare...anybody Tyson couldn't intimidate...suddenly would be the favorite...

Earnie Shavers power

Post by Cojimar 1945 »

Earnie Shavers appears to have been perhaps the most devastating puncher to fight at heavyweight and it certainly seems plausible that he hits harder than Tyson. I don't understand why anyone would expect Tyson to hit harder.

Tyson, at his best, was definitely impressive. Great power with great hand speed. Harder to hit than one might think.

But it seemed just his aura beat a lot of fighters before they even stepped through the ropes. It took them out of there own game before a punch was even thrown. Just for his amazing hand speed and power, you could never rule Tyson out of any fight.

But, if I were going to bet, I'd take Holmes to weather an early storm and begin to take the fight over along about the 4th or 5th round. Then, by the time it became evident to Mike himself that he was in in there with someone who wasn't afraid, he'd have only that puncher's chance.

It would be almost like a redo of Tyson-Douglas.

Yep, Holmes did everything that Douglas did in that fight better in his prime, quicker hands, better chin, better workrate, more power better ring smarts.

The difference would have been that Larry would probably have beaten Tyson shitless before he landed that 9th round uppercut.

Hey I'm laughing because you have to know that the Tyson that fought Douglas was not the same Tyson that went 12 rounds with Tony Tucker, or the same Tyson that Ko'd an undefeated Michael Spinks in 91 seconds.

here is the deal guys. i see some serious tyson hating on this site all the time. i try not to hate on any fighter. i try to look at them from an objective standpoint and measure them in that manner whether i like them or not.

here is the thing. with out cus, tyson wasn't half of what he was with him. yeah, he was young when douglas beat him, but what about his mental and emotional state? he lost cus, he had been with don king long enough to fornicate him up, robin givens was divorcing him which was probably too much for him to handle therefore he wouldn't take shit as seriously as he needed too in order to stay at the level he needed to be at.

plain and simple. tyson with cus, beats nearly any heavy at any time in their careers. cus could control him and make him do things no other person could make him do. i am not saying that he wouldn't lose later on down the road, but i am saying that with cus he wouldn't have lost to douglas, he wouldn't have gone to jail, and he wouldn't have lost what should have been his best years. he would have stood up and kept fighting like he did agains bone crusher smith (whom he couldn't knock out and kept throwing back) and against mitch green. he would have bobbed and weaved and thrown a jab, and he would have used smarts in the ring like he did early in his career.

i am not taking anything away from larry. i actually think i rated him ahead of tyson on my all-time heavy list (#3 to tysons #6 or 7), but if tyson catches him, he would probably get up and run, but he wouldn't be able to run from a young tyson. the old larry new that so he stayed down. the young larry would get up and fight, but do so on the run, but it wouldn't do any good because tyson was a buzzsaw and once he smelt blood it was over.

That is the most accurate description of Mike Tyson that I've ever seen on this forum.
