A relatively long interview with Felix Sturm was posted on fightnews today, and I thought he came across as a bit of a tit. In the interview he states that the "true experts" thought he won and that Macklin fought dirty, and he seems to insinuate that Macklin is afraid of him.

Thoughts on the interview or what happens in a potential rematch?

I think Sturm beats him, when he let is hand sgo you could see who was better. Macklin looked busy but smothered most of his work and neevr really had that much snap in his punches. He'll definitely get stopped in the rematch for me

Why is the Champion the more enthusiastic for the rematch.

I wonder if Macklin has reverted to being a tit and claiming some moral victory from the fight and refusing to sign or 'exploring' his options

Matthyse won much more clearly for me on the same night against Alexander and I'm sure he wouldn't delay if Alexander manned up and gave him the rematch he deserved

Sturm wins the rematch Macklin did everything he could, Sturm didn't bother doing enough. His sharper punching was plain to see though,he just employed very strange tactics...just let Macklin come inside and bang away...It's not like Matt is lightning quick just tenacious and tough can't understand why Sturm didn't jab and move

id like to no what is on offer :!: in comparison to the last fight.

i think sturm realises if he cant defeat the macklins of this world in convincing fashion there aint no point in moving forward & has granted the rematch to test his limitations & a safer reality check if that makes sense.

No dont expect a champions purse for Macklin. I was merely trying to point out that just because Sturm is making all these noises doesnt necessarily mean that he wants the rematch.

I see no reason why Macklin wouldn't want to take a rematch as long as the terms were ok. Its win win for him another shot at a man that he believes he can beat anyway. Unless he gets a better offer from another titlist which is extremely unlikely what reason does he have not to take this fight?

He lost a close fight, he should be itching to get back in provided he is not getting stiffed on the terms. As 'bad' decision goes its way behind the Matthyse and Lara 'losses'

I dont think he came across as a tit and I think the interviewer lead with the question about macklin being afraid of him, which made him respond a certain way, also every fighter thinks they one a fight that is close, so nothing wrong there, Macklin did rough him up in there, a good tactic, it worked and enabled Macklin to get to him more. In a rematch it is difficult to see Macklin having as much sucess, shame it will still be in Germany.

Macklin's problem is that he fancies himself as a businessman and keeps changing direction in search of better offers all the time, with opponents, trainers and promoters.

He's been offered the rematch with Sturm and ought to take it, regardless of the venue and hopefully get the nod this time. If it means a 3rd fight, so be it.

Maybe he has other, better, options.

Many fighters need to be guided like children. Macklins a smart chap, he's a good relationship and a long term relationship with manager Brian Peters. he knows what's good for him and it's stood well to him so far.

Sturms cred in Germany was in tatters after the Macklin fight and he desparetly wants a rematch.

I don't doubt that Macklin is a smart man, I think he's got a career ahead of him in the com-box/studio when he hangs up the gloves.

I just think it'd be a mistake for him to walk away from this rematch - unless a fight with Geale can be lined up in the near future, with Martinez being tied up with Barker.

It's just a frustrating theme with his career, too much chopping and changing with various things, coupled with fairly long gaps between fights.

Hopefully he's settled down a bit now at Gallaghers and will enjoy some success over the next few years. The division needs livening up, too many ''champions'' hiding behind their titles in Europe. If Macklin does grab a share of the pie I expect to see him making noise on both sides of the pond, rather than being an Allegedly type champion fighting bums.

I had the fight fairly close myself.

Macklin ran away with the first half, but looked ragged in the latter stages and perhaps the second time round should be more economical with his punches and finisher stronger.

Next time once he's unloaded and wounded Sturm, he should get on his bike for a moment, instead of hunting for more and getting greedy. Because Sturm was taking them and thus I'm not sure Matty would have banged him out.

I give him a good chance in a rematch, just so long as he can capture that fear & hunger in camp again that he probably had during the first attempt.

I became less and less impressed with Macklin in recent years with his performances as many did too, but his effort brought him a lot of well deserved plaudits even in defeat and put him back on the map.

He definitely could do it.
