Some of the names popping up on this thread are British boxing legends! They have hardly flopped. British and European champions can also claim a good career!

I had thought John Fewkes was destined for British and maybe European. Michael Maguire was another who I thought would be challenging for titles at this stage. Don Broadhurst, although I hope he can get back in the mix. After his next fight, perhaps Kevin Mitchell will be on the list...

Well it's relative. If Frankie Gavin for example finishes his career with only a British title to his name then I think people could say he flopped (obviously depending on the circumstances).

Looks like a good call there mate, he was just arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, evading arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and hit and run late Thursday evening in San Diego.

Thirlwall. he was amazing in the aba's. he was like nigel benn the way he went in & attacked. very exciting.

i dont think mcracken was really right for him or understood him as a person.

World honours aside, some lads at domestic level I thought would perhaps capture a lonsdale belt outright.

I never thought Young Mutley would ever be a world champion. But the way he timed and out-muscled Mick Jennings made me think he would be around for a while at domestic level then he just got battered.

David Barnes was another supposedly big deal, but not seen anything of him since 2009 either.

Great shout
George has had loads of out of ring issues. I saw him spar aged 16 and he looked sensational. Still young enough to do something. Like Ed I remember being v impressed by Alan temple. And if you believe the ingles, khaliq shafeeq!
Khaleed was never goin to make it brother, never seen a kid believe his own hype before he got any hype(if ya know what i mean?). Fewkes is a good shout tho', interestingly both were trained by Glyn Rhodes from the 1st time they laced on gloves. Wouldn't put Bomber in the flop catergery tho- lost by warnings to 1 of the best l-middles/middles of modern era and got sparked by 1 of the greatest 1 punch middles of all time when dominating. He had some great wins.

You for real he's fought ..ok lost for 3 world titles last time out against the next world superstar he's got the talent to still become a world champ ... A little bit harsh how many people has fought for world titles especially WBC in Mexico :witzend: :witzend:great call you really are a tool son

I always feel Shea Neary could have went alot further than he did. Hugely popular in Liverpool and a very good fighter it's surprising that he never even fought for the British title. He was in some tough scraps and always gave you a brawl but I feel his best days were wasted on defending the WBU title when he could have been competing for genuine titles. He didn't flop but he could went alot further than he did.

I'd say Mike Brodie but I think it was the robbery against Jorrin that really done him in! I think had he got the decision he deserved that night then I think he'd have gone on to bigger things! We all know he deserved the W that night! I think he'd have done great as WBC champion..

Ive actually read about how good Dean Francis was. Back in the late 90's/early 00's there were stories that Calzaghe didnt want to fight him incase Francis 'found himself'

Lol mate Joe blasted him out and would have again with ease.
Dean was out very own Jeff Lacy (thought funnily enough Dean had a GREAT left hook and Lacy didn't) but could have been a champ.

I can't believe some of the stuff I'm reading here.
To describe the likes of Moore, Hamed Rhodes etc as flops is a disgrace.
Add up the number of titles won between them.
OK maybe the EXPECTATION was higher than the achievement - but flops ........ do me a favour.

flopped is a poor word to use i agree.it's basically fighters who never reached there full potential or looked like they was storming the top but never got there.

i think naz left a decent legacy, he was a great champion but i believe fan's potentially saw him as the greatest feather.

I have a liitle bit of respect for every fighter mate.
Anyone who puts his head between the ropes professionally deserves that.
Language such as "flop" "bottler" etc I just never use.

Mate i get your respect for fighters but Bruno's arse colapsed in Tyson 2

And I think Ryan Rhodes of old would have moved in to try to take the ginger out.

Oh, and Michael Grant.
Did you know that nice guy Shannon went up to Gonzalez to shake his hand only to be bitch slapped by the big nutter!

Michael Grant was HBO's attempt to manufacture a bigger US version of Lennox!!!

They failed!
