i think the majority of fans and experts will say ali and louis are top 2 heavyweights of all time. now if i saw ali # 1 and louis # 2, i wouldnt argue with that cause i can see how people rate ali # 1. but after that??? i cant see how louis should be rated lower than 2nd. ive noticed a lot of users rate jack johnson in top 2 and i think ur overating him when u put him that high.

Joe Louis is without doubt the greatest man who ever held the heavyweight title.
There are arguments for and against about who would beat who but almost all the champions were capable of beating each other on certain nights.
But Joe Louis was so much more, who else was loved and respected so much by the public throughout their career.

Joe Louis was the heavyweight 'god'...no other heavyweight had the complete package that Joe had...none...that said, however, he was human, like they all were...they all had vulnerabilities and short comings...if you make a top 10 heavyweight list, don't expect your #1 to go undefeated fighting the others on the list...if the #1 fights the 9 guys below him 3 times each...the best he would do might be something like 22-5...there would be an incredible amount of competition there, and there would be some upsets...I believe Joe Louis would beat virtually anybody 2 out of 3, most of them 3 out of 3...maybe Ali and Holmes might squeak by him once...but not twice...I can envision Louis doing a job on Ali using the Futch/Norton strategy...'when he jabs, you jab'...and Joe Louis had a dynamic left jab, fast and powerful combinations, and Joe always knew how to get up when he did get caught with a good one...
I have to go with Joe Louis.
THe man was on top for over a decade, set the record for the most successfull title defenses regardless of weight class in a time when their was only one champion, and absolutely crushed his opposition.
He also fought some decent fighters while they were in their prime, and was IMO the most dominate fighter boxing has ever had.
I respect Ali greatly, but have to say Louis was the best.
Only one man beat him in his prime, and he got rudely blown out in thier rematch with authority.
