jack dempsey vs. rocky marciano

who do you think wins in this?.. i think rocky and dempsey are both tough ass fighters but i cant see a prime marciano defeating a prime jack dempsey..dempsey could take marciano's punches, unlike alot of the people rocky faced..i think dempsey loses the first few rounds, but because he can take a punch, he will be able to get on the worn out marciano and give him his first KO in the 9-10 rounds.....

I don't think Dempsey would lose many if any rounds to Marciano, I think Dempsey was a far superior boxer, so the question would be whether or not Marciano could knock Dempsey out. I do think Marciano had the power to bring down ANYONE if he could land on them, but Dempsey may well have been able to avoid the worst of that, and Dempsey for his own part probably had the power to put Rocky away himself if Marciano wasn't careful.

I think Dempsey gets the odds on this one.

rory u said he would catch up to a worn down marciano. marcianos best rounds WERE LATE IN THE FIGHT. marciano had incredible stamina and always dominated the fight late while he WORE DOWN THE OTHER GUY. i think he would knock out dempsey. it would be a ferocious battle, but jack dempsey also kept his hand LOW AND DIDNT HAVE THAT GOOD OF DEFENSE. FIRPO HAD HIM KNOCKED THROUGH THE ROPES AND OUTWITH THE RIGHT HAND. TUNNY KNOCKED HIM DOWN WITH A RIGHT. i think mariano was stronger and would have caught dempsey in a slug out and finished dempsey.

Agreed.

Dempsey had the handspeed and skill advantage but Marciano was tougher.

I don't know why there is all this talk about Dempsey having a good chin, he himself said that he knew he had a glass jaw and would chew bark or something like that because he believed it would strengthen it.

I think Rocky warmed up as fights went on, getting stronger round by round, but I also think that Jack was quicker and a better boxer. Both had underrated defences too.

At some point they would go toe-to-toe. I honestly feel that if Rocky is around in the later rounds that he can really bring it on BUT I just think Dempsey was overall the better of the 2

Dempsey carried his power into the later rounds too. Marciano usually needed to land a lot of punches over several rounds to break a guy down. Dempsey could be hit and hurt, but he was even more dangerous then. Ezzard Charles was a better defensive fighter than Dempsey, but Marciano still managed to get to him, though Charles survived the first time.

These two are members of an elite group of heavyweights. The All-Time Greats. Other fighters had some of the tools these guys had, but not all. Rex Layne could bang, but he couldn't take it like Dempsey, didn't have Jack's fire in the belly. Bill Brennan could box and punch hard, but he didn't have Rocky's stamina or drive.

This fight is a real pick'em. If they fought 50 times they might split even. In just one fight, my money would be on Dempsey, but I'd be on the edge of my seat sweating buckets as long as it lasted.
