The interview? I like Victor Ortiz. Good guy; looks focused. It's worrying that he admits that he has no idea how to beat Floyd. I'd have thought that fighters watch fighters and they have ideas of what they'd do with this style, or how they'd beat this guy, or what they'd do to counter such and such a move. Victor seemed to genuinely have no idea.
I know what you mean but quite a few fighters I've talked to aren't bothered about watching a lot of their opponent. I remember Mayweather also saying in an interview that he doesn't watch tapes, he just works them out and adapts in the ring. Whether it was true or not, I don't know but I think it could be compared to a lot of footballers not being football experts and playing to their instincts.
James Toney said he never watched opponents, because he wasn't worried about what they were going to do, but what he was going to do. However, not many fighters have the ability to adapt in fight like Toney and Mayweather.

However,Ortiz said in the interview 'I don't know, I haven't even started training camp yet.' To me, that implies that they will work on a strategy to beat floyd once he starts training. I doubt he has the skillset to win, unless of course Floyd's inactivity and relative age have caught up with him.

i like ortiz, but he wont ever come across well in a chat like that. He talks too emotionally all the time. Floyd is slick, and will win this fight comfortably within the distance. I will be rooting for Victor though.

Ortiz sounded like he was being interviewed for a bar tending job. Being the biggest fight of his life and coming across like that seems a bit odd.

Ortiz has nothing to lose. Nobody expects him to win. A loss has no bearing on his marketability, save for the fact that sharing a ring with Mayweather increases your profile.

He may seem too relaxed, but why shouldn't he be, it's a golden opportunity! He's enjoying himself.

James, I truly hope that young Victor goes in there and shocks the world.
I only recently heard about his background and no matter what he does in the ring I will never call him a quitter again.

Thought Ortiz looked relaxed and confident. Will be rooting for him all the way as I've been a fan since I saw him on the undercard of a big US bill (so big I can't remember who was fighting).

Mayweather is Mayweather though, he's on another level. Fingers crossed for the Ortiz upset but you have to fancy Floyd.

That is something that i made a post about recently..........

If you look at the promo for Mosley, Floyd looked a lot younger. Some of the guys on here were saying that it's because he isn't in proper shape yet, but i got the same feeling as you did Mark. I still think he wipes the floor with Ortiz though. I wouldn't agree on Floyd looking a little nervous, i personally thought he looked very confident and it was Ortiz who didn't really know how to handle it, which is not suprising really. I thought Ortiz was trying to intimidate at times, be cool at others and then try and be friendly and complimentary, depending on the reactions he got from Floyd. He was very aggresive at the first press conference for the fight and yet when Floyd did his stalling tactic with the "prada" shoe, Ortiz didn't reallly know what to do or say. I think Floyd won that little mind game and will definately win the fight, but i think that Floyd has only 18 months to two years before he starts to decline and i think he is well aware of that fact.

Just stating facts..........He does look less fresh (Law issues, family problems) and he certainly will decline in that time frame

Nothing dumb at all in those comments

It doesn't matter how he looks, it has little bearing on his ability to fight.

He isn't a Roy Jones Jr, whereby as soon as he loses his speed he will become ineffective. He has skills and is supremely defensive, so if he gets back on the game 100% (as he ought to) there's no reason he can't fight for another 2-3 years without decline.

I do think that he needs to stick to fighting though. He needs to cut out all the partying and bullshit and become a full time fighter again.

I think the two things go togther, how he seems older and his eventual decline. He is now 34 years of age and the fact that he fights every 15 months or so, means that he perhaps he two, possibly three fights at which he can stay at the same standard. Floyd will lose the reflexes and he will not be as effective at 36, 37 years of age as he is right now. Floyd would still be very good, but he will lose that edge over and above a certain age and the amont of times he fights, he will struggle to judge what his skill levels will be past the age of 35. Simply speaking, going from 27 to 29 years of age, is different to 34 to 36 !!!
