Stupid Ingle hype machine of the mid 90's!
Ahh the dreaded Ingle style.

TBF I thought putting a novice in with Orlin Norris was shamefull (and no matter what any of you say Pele was always a novice)
Seemed like a really nice guy though, a lot of them Ingle fighters do.
Jono Thaxton I liked also, seems like a nice man.

There's where we will have to disagree Saxon.
The Rhodes of old would have been stopped in the mid rounds against Ginner Nut.
Ultimately Rhodes was beaten by the better fighter - simples.
However to describe Rhodes as a bottle job is outrageous.
Ask Jamie Moore.
Ryan will be back in action by November, and in meaningful fights.
Just how a bottler would react after Mexico eh ?

Certainly its very harsh to call Rhodes a bottler, in fact its not a phrase that Id label anyone with who has the guts to step into the ring. Rhodes simply realised that he couldnt stand up to the ginger ones strength and power and fought a reargaurd fight there in at try and take the kid into the later rounds. Certainly it would have made for better viewing if Ryan had gone toe to toe with the mexican and we would have had about 5 rounds of good action before Rhodes was koed, but ryan would also have shortened and perhaps even ended his career.
Its worth adding also that Rhodes nolonger had the pure speed of his youth to try and outbox the ginger nut... all in all he did the best he could with the ability he has left in his mid-30s.

Thought Richard Evatt would/could have gone a lot further. The most he ever committed himself to training was 3 weeks for the Junior Jones fight, had him down and nearly out in the first two rounds only to be stopped himself late (11th rd I think,) while carrying on through much of the fight with a broken jaw. Could really hit for the lighter weights. He was banging them all over until party living got hold of him.

No I agree he would have been ko'ed but he would have went for it AND might have chinned the ginger one.

No you little fanny, if he had the nads that he had as young man and If he "DAN DARED TO BE GREAT" he might not be wondering why he didn't throw a "26" punch combination to try to knock the ginger out and be happy in the knowledge that he really went for it from the off, which was his only real shot, but then again I dont know boxing do I?
Get it? methinks probably not.

Hey and watch the provocation via your snide insults ya poofy prick...it's bullying :OhYes:

Laing is probably one of the most overrated British fighters of all time.

Aside from a close decision win over a dis-interested Duran, what else is there?

He's got several losses to some middling to decent domestic fighters - if there'd just been the odd one I'd be inclined to agree that he could have done something more....

Ok then please ask Ryan this,

Does he think that if he had the fight in England and he went for the KO quickly he would have got it?

I believe he will surprise you and say yes!

The reason? because I have seen the ginger wobled a few times and I know Ryan Rhodes has some serious pop.
And BTW when he beat Jamie Moore I was sooooooooooo happy for him as I think he's a lovely guy, I sat up in the middle of the night thinking that he would shock the world and was mega pissed that HBO never saw the real Ryan Rhodes, you see I think Ryan is a much better fighter than he was in that fight.

One other thing I believe that him learing to fight more conventionally has extended his career but I think that the old Spice Boy style may have won him a world title at LM.

Jon,
The Rhodes camp had a game plan.
Where the fight took place was totally irrelevent to that.
Alvarez had a fantastic camp, and he was in fantastic shape. The best of his career.
Everything Rhodes planned for, Alvarez had an answer.
I think in years to come Rhodes will look back and realise he fought one of the best.
I wouldn't be in the slightest shocked if he won World Titles from LM to SM.
So the answer is No. As I've said before, had he fought in the manner you are suggesting he would have been ko'd.
You underestimate Alvarez.
Every fight he has he comes back better and better.
Not just my view, Ryan's as well.

I believe that a peak Rhodes using the Ingle style would have worked.

The reason? I think that Alverez does nothing exceptional and isnt as good as people think and as a result would have been confused bigtime by the Naz like style.

But we will never know.

My input dudes....

Augie Sanchez.... Watch him take apart Luisito Espinosa post Naz for as perfect a world class performance you could wish to see by a non world champ.

'Poncho' Sanchez of Micky Ward fame. Christ he was talented. He had beautiful balance and poise.

Domestically Cathal O'Grady, Mathew Ellis, Tony Doherty, Andy Morris. :TU:

Great shouts there Jeff, and to think Augie beat Mayweather in the ams!! great poise if somewhat stiff at times but what a nice style to watch eh?

Poncho looked like the next mexican grear I thought but the loss to Ward seemed to have a 'Don Currie' effect on him.

Matt Elis as fat CW with fast hands in the wrong division though.
I thougt Michael Caruth could have done better

On world level I would say toss up between audley and mark breland

Audley was Olympic super heavyweight champion so should of been a world titlist at the least

Breland was one of the greatest amateurs in USA history and even though it's mad to say, considering he was a world champion which is a tremendous achievement, flopped big time as a pro!
