Tarver v Hopkins seems likely if he gets past Dawson

Hopkins is the Archie Moore of today. Hopkins is savy, crafty and briliantly schooled.crusader wrote:Because Hopkins is a 46 year old LHW (he would be 47 by fight time). Haye would be ridiculed endlessly if he took tthis fight, and things are already bad enough for him.keithmoonhangover wrote:I must be on my own because I think it would be a very good fight for Haye. Exposure in America against an established name. Why not? He needs a coupl of fights before he'll get Vitali, so why not Hopkins?
Hopkins is a world champion, Haye is not.
"Ridiculed"? I think Hopkins wins at least 3/10 against Haye.
Re: Hopkins v Haye?
Hopkins is a LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT champion, and that doesn't really matter because there would be no titles on the line anyway.keithmoonhangover wrote:Hopkins is the Archie Moore of today. A top five heavyweight who is coming off an embarrassing loss and wants to reestablish his presence in the division will not gain anything by taking a fight with Hopkins. It would look absolutely terrible for Haye to be fighting a much, much smaller man who is almost 50. As for Hopkins chances, they are very slim. Don't forget that he was just dropped and hurt on multiple occasions over the course of two competitive fights with Pascal (the first being very close).
Is Paul Williams vs Ricky Burns next? At least Williams doesn't have much power, so Burns won't get too badly hurt.

Re: Hopkins v Haye?
Forgive me if I'm stating old ground but haye v tarver would be a great money fight and also includes a test for both fighters. Haye isn't a heavyweight well a contender but k2 are just too big for him. Haye is at least too levels above green so I'd but 15 quid (with an undercard!)
Re: Hopkins v Haye?
This is complete nonsense.kingfinn wrote:Silly topic and Hopkins could be seriously hurt. he has absolutely no physical attributes to compete with Haye and hasnt ko'd anyone above middle weight.
It would be a 1 round farce, haye would show him no respect in the ring and brutaly ko hopkins.

Which is Precisely why he shouldn't & I believe Won't, entertain a bout with Hopkins.MachoMan09 wrote:The only incentive for Haye would be money. Winning adds nothing to his legacy, losing destroys his legacy
Re: Hopkins v Haye?
Obviously it remains to be seen, but I have a feeling Haye has made his money now and the fire is gone. Hopefully I'm wrong and he has a few good years left but I wouldn't be surprised if we see him moving on to acting or whatever it is he wants to do next.
Re: Hopkins v Haye?
I would give Hopkins a chance, but I definately think if Haye connects cleanly, Hopkins is out of there. I don't think we can dispute Haye has carried his power up..... The only reason he didn't KO Audley on the flat of his back is because the ref didn't give him the chance.King Geedorah wrote:Cannot see Haye stopping Hopkins. He failed to put Audley flat on his back in their fight and has not looked the same fighter recently. I rarely pick against B-Hop and would favour him if they went straight at it without getting getting an interim outing.
He showed against Ruiz he carries bombs at Heavyweight. Haye main problem is he likes to fight tall.
Re: Hopkins v Haye?
Lose-lose situation for Haye. Don't love his chances against a guy with Hopkins' movement and ring craft.
Re: Hopkins v Haye?
I agree with the above and said so earlier. Though the breadth of opinions on here would appear to suggest folk would be watching with perverse intrigue.

Hopkins last ko was de la hoya in 2004, i think haye is a little bigger than a 155lb 5'10 de la hoya.
Hopkins gives 2 inches away in height an came in a 174 in his last fight - haye came in light at 211lbs in his last fight and has a ko ration of 85%. Hopkins was dropped by pascal - haye isnt going to go out and box on the back foot against a smaller man, he'll just go out and smash him up straight away. Its a complete mismatch!

no! you fools are just living in fantasy land where a 47 year old light heavy (with no kos in the last 8 years) who's most effective days were at middle weight, can compete with a world class, extremely fast heavyweight and one of the hardest punchers in the world. Even a prime jones had to handpick a slow not very technical, medium strength punching HW to fight.allahsnackbar wrote:you have embarrassed yourself with this post matekingfinn wrote:elaborate?mkirkhope wrote: This is complete nonsense.

Hopkins, even giving away 30lbs of natrual weight would school Haye and stop him late.jamesmcdonnell wrote:You really think so?deadpan wrote:Haye would be roundly ridiculed if he took this fight. The risk-reward ratio would render it a ludicrous move on his part. Plus it'd be going to points.
Haye has a lot of flaws that Hopkins could exploit. Bernard isn't stupid, he's only talking about the fight because he sees weaknesses. Haye isn't on Hopkins level skills wise, and that's what evens it up. I think I'd make Haye favourite, but not by a great deal.
Haye doesnt belong in the same ring as Hopkins.
Re: Hopkins v Haye?
based on what,? he hasnt stopped anyone above middle weight back in 2004, compared to a middle weight hayes chin is solid granite.McCannW14 wrote:Hopkins, even giving away 30lbs of natrual weight would school Haye and stop him late.jamesmcdonnell wrote:You really think so?deadpan wrote:Haye would be roundly ridiculed if he took this fight. If in reality hopkins stood a chance this fight would be happening, but its not because only a couple of loons on an internet forum believe hopkins is now superman and can compete with a fast big punching top flight heavy weight.

When talking about Haye all reason goes out of the window, somebody said Jeff Thomas could knock him out earlier.
Re: Hopkins v Haye?
who wants to watch a fight with no punches?
horrible idea.

You most certainly haven't described David Haye there.kingfinn wrote:no! you fools are just living in fantasy land where a 47 year old light heavy (with no kos in the last 8 years) who's most effective days were at middle weight, can compete with a world class, extremely fast heavyweight and one of the hardest punchers in the world. Hayes legacy in boxing, at it stands today, is only held slightly higher than that of Old-Audley.
Titles mean very little nowadays. So to point out he won cruiser and heavyweight world titles is no big deal really .. Herbie Hides also held a world heavyweight title .. Johnny Nelson was a long time cruiserweight champion ... so what
Hopkins is a very clever guy. He would not be calling out a guy unless he felt it was stacked considerably in his favour.
Haye is no great. Never was - never will be.
Logic tells you the bigger, heavier and younger guy beats the older, smaller and lighter guy.
But with Hopkins. You can never safely bet against him.
And if haye can get knocked down by a blown up s-middle at cruiser ... ;;-)

Not sure what your stat about Hopkins last KO has got to do with anything. I didn't say who would win, and definately didn't say Hopkins would win by KO.
I'd give Hopkins a very good chance because Haye has such obvious flaws. Your assertion that he would be 'brutally ko'd in less than a round' is ridiculous.

If he cant lure the opponent in with a low left hand and chuck over the big right he has no plan b and NO idea. The art of Boxing is learned over many years many fights and tons of meeting different types of fighter and learning how to adapt to deal with them.
After three rounds of fighting Hopkins Haye would be baffled, after nine he would be blowing out of his arse
