Quality, cannot wait.
Tough fight for Derry but if he can last the first half of the fight against the Rees bombardment, I could see him doing the job late.
Bomber and Clev were being mooted for this date too, this won't be happening on the same night will it?

Rees fight will be on Sky so unless Warren has Bellew v Cleverly on a different channel its likely to be different night.jBacca wrote:Quality, cannot wait.

I fancy Derry for late stoppage.
If Rees displays the same stamina concerns he showed against Watson and Murray then Mathews will punish him

good chance for derry i really hope he can pull it off, hes really turned it all around just goes to show if you dont give up on yourself and keep believing you can achieve great things and if derry can win the euro title that would be pretty damn great imo, its easy to quit its bloody hard to do what derry has done fair play to him he deserves his shot hope he can win it ![[icon_notworthy.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_notworthy.gif)

I don't think it's Derry's chin that will be the deciding factor in this fight. It will be his ability to take a body shot.

Spot on Curtis, you showed what can be achieved by believing in yourself, alot of people thought Frankie would of had too much for you and stop you around the middle rounds, I know you didn`t win, but you pushed him really close, and got the nod on one of the judges cards, so good on ye! I also think Derry is full of confidence at lightweight he looks stronger, and I go for a Mathews stoppage late on.

I'm struggling to work out which of Matthews' last 4 wins earned him a European title shot? English title shot, fine. British title would be pushing it a bit, but an EBU crack!?

agreed, good call. i also agree with the poster who said Matthews could make it interesting if he deals with the first 6 rounds of pressure.kamicazze wrote:I don't think it's Derry's chin that will be the deciding factor in this fight. It will be his ability to take a body shot.

Similar night of boxing to the Froch-Johnson fight night. Rees fight in Cardiff then over to AC for Barker-Martinez....

Yes seems like it. The froch night was good!statmanjohn wrote:Similar night of boxing to the Froch-Johnson fight night. Rees fight in Cardiff then over to AC for Barker-Martinez....
Re: Matthews v Rees Oct 1 in Newport
Ok, understand the EBU have rated him officially, but how on earth does beating those last four opponents equal a top ten rating? I know it's the way the sport is now, but still surprising.
