Is anyone getting any footage? I gotta see Spence-Iman! LOL

Browne and Odom interests me too since Odom dropped Browne when they fought in the PALS and it was very close...

Guess Herring beating Sosa 14-13 kills the rest of Mel's theory.....

165 lbs and then Browne-Odom ... My guess Browne by a point or a tiebreaker lol ... Jose Ramirez looked impressive again and I think, besides Warren, looks the best. Warren is showing his maturity this week.

I sure hope Mel was tongue in cheek saying whoever wins the weight classes at these trials is the best in the weight class just because it is double elimination.
Ahhh - no, actually I am not being sarcastic at all. This is the system USAB uses to determine the best in the weight classes - there is no other avenue. Double elimination is a lot more fair than the old way of having coaches behind closed doors pick their "Most Noteworthy Opponent" for the 8th slot. Talk about politics!
Sure sounds like quite a few bouts have appeared to go to the wrong fighter, more then past Olympic qualifiers in fact.
And you say this because?
What would be a more appropiate answer is whoever wins is the best this week under the scoring system we currently have, nothing more nothing less.
And this "appropriate answer" could be applied to all past Trials bouts.
We could go on all day about bad decisions in amateur boxing the worst is most likely Eric Griffin in the 1992 Olympics, ALL judges had Eric winning the fight but their buttons didnt synch up within 3 seconds so he lost the fight 6-5 despite having 31 more more recorded blows (81-50).
Very old system that is no longer being used. New system doesn't have a one-second window giving accepted scores.

The closed door voting for the best challaneger was one of the worst without a doubt (Ask Montell Griffin about that or Joe Mesi for that matter), the punch button system which I noted in the Griffin decision also was not well thought out and was a reaction to the Roy Jones debacle of 1988 but delay when you push and of course you manipulate it just a different way. Just cant say a fighter is the best if he gets a gift decision/decisions at a tournament, doesnt matter if it is double, triple or quad elimation. Again a better way to field then previously (Or follow yoiur man brackets like some wrestling and grappling tournamens)but the winner of the tournament is not always the best fighter,no ifs and buts about that. Human error or bias is still in play.

I was at the 1996 Trials where it was last used. There were two box-offs before the tournament even started to determine who would compete. The double elimination came into being because of that.
but the winner of the tournament is not always the best fighter,no ifs and buts about that. Human error or bias is still in play.
But it's the only determining format we have. Bias is hard to do on the computer system; don't know what you mean by human error.

Lol. I'm typing and recording. Surviving. I think he was hurt a couple times but he came out immediately and took an early lead. Brilliant strategy!

Kullen - I can't get USAB's web site to come up with any bouts after 165 Challenger's bracket. Who won the 178 Challengers (Shabazz vs. Spencer)? and the HW winners (Shimmell vs. Hunter)?

Never mind. Sigh. I got it. Hope it's my computer. :D

O my bad  yea I knew Odom would bring the pressure...Marcus knew it too...Odom dropped him last time they fought so I'm sure he thought he could take Marcus out this time...

Good stuff...I'm suprised Joe Williams won but damn that's great...

My thoughts: Byrd and Correa are both really, Correa has won 4 of the last 6 rounds they have fought, but Byrd has clearly won the 3rd round in each fight by a lot of points. Correa didn't have that big of a lead in their fight last month, so Byrd made his comeback and won. This time, he was up by enough to win on tiebreaker. My guess is when they fight again, if Byrd defeats Vasquez, Byrd will have to jump out early and take control of this fight or else Correa is going to win it on points.
