The Ring magazine

Post by milpool »

Seeing as though we've been having debates about 'Boxing News' and Glynn has his 'Boxing Monthly' up for sale at a very reasonable price of £11M :D I was wondering why 'the Ring' has taken a bit of flak in a number of posts recently.
I get it every month and admittedly there are some months when it is a lot better than others, this month's is pretty poor, although I suppose all mags have their good and bad issues. It also has to be said that they're currently having a cringeworthy love affair with Manny Pacquiao who has featured massively in the last four or fives issues.
The only negative for me it that it's always about three months behind, which I've never understood in all the years I've bought it. Maybe there is a valid reason for this but I can't really see one to be honest...?
But I'd be genuinely interested in why it gets such a bad press on here?

Was just going to bring up how out of date a lot of it is. Otherwise quite liked it, but one magazine a month is enough for me and haven't bought it for a while.

I hate reading previews of fights that happened a few months ago. It's too expensive and is very Golden Boy orientated imo. I havn't bought it for over two years but I do remember liking a few articles on boxers of the past.

Out of date reports and out of touch, owned by goldie and a dodgy banker!

There is little a magazine can offer these days that a website can't.

On the odd time I've bought it, it was out of date and irrelevant despite being the correct month.

It was discussing / reviewing fights 8 weeks earlier and the overall content was just dull, dull, dull.

Old farts reminiscing about some unknown 'contender' from New Jersey in 1930 mixed in with Everlast adverts.

i'm going to start subcribing to Ring Magazine, any UK outlets that do it rather than pay x3 times the cost to have it shipped from US?

Why is it so out of date with it's fight reports unlike Boxing Monthly?

Probably because they take so long publishing and releasing the bloody thing.
