Mackling has a right to explore his promotional options and if Dibella was offering something juicy then why not......the bigger concern is his corner team, is Macklin still with Gallagher?

I agree. It will be a shame he is not going for the rematch, but this will open up doors for him and hopefully some fights against some names.

Well, that wasn't his only offer. He has signed with DiBella on the promise of facing Martinez St Patrick's Day weekend at the Garden.
Contract with Sturm stipulated purses for rematches/options, so he was tied in for 2 years.
Apart from that, DiBella's probably given him a hefty signing on fee.
He took the risk by taking a title fight instead of a longterm deal with Warren or Golden Boy. Now that's paid off for him.

Barker won't spring a surprise. Open secret that his hip's not right, that's why he is going straight for Martinez rather than the original plan of "keep busy".
But DiBella will have options on Barker anyway.
well dibella needs opponents for martinez - that's no secret.
all they can make for him is high risk, low reward (relative to his talents) fights for the most. lee sells tickets on the martinez undercard/s, but hasn't looked to be of high enough calibre, as yet (despite pulling out the mcewan win in exciting fashion).
and it is good that macklin has options away from sturm and germany, something i wondered aloud about on here (i thought perhaps he'd end up vs pavlik).
hope macklin-winky doesn't come round again. winky is trying for the comeback, again, it seems. dibella does seem to like the middleweights, which used to be arum territory (hagler, mcallum, toney>pavlik).
i figured martinez would be fighting erislandy lara soon, if lara gets another reputation-making fight. probably lara-molina 2 with the winner to fight sergio - that's the way it was looking, and while a good matchup, not the glamour fight that a good left hook and a pair of green shorts can bring!
