i think its fair to say that boxers run there self into the ground like know one else :!:

cyclist's enjoy cycling as do swimmers do swimming & it's easyier for them to train as boxers sparring is a small part of there regime & the mental aspect it far greater as most other sports are easily measured by times etc. it's why boxing is so well respected as people dont like being uncertain having to rely on faith.

F1 drivers are supremely fit, they have to be to handle the forces which go through their body, that said though a motorcycle racer is even fitter because not only do they have the g-forces to contend with but must use their body to turn the bike, when you watch someone like Valentino Rossi going through a high speed bend with the bike at a 45 degree angle with his knee scraping along the tarmac it looks so easy but not many people really understand how much stress his body is going through in order to do that, he's putting up with g-forces as well as wrestling with a bike which gyroscopically wants to stay upright also battling against other factors ie. wind, bumps in the track, lack of grip and throttle control, it all requires massive strength, fitness, concentration and co-ordination, far harder than it looks on the tv and even if you do have all of the above just like boxing if you don't have balls then you may as well not bother.

Which sport produces the fittest depends really, I'd say endurance events require more fitness than most sports.

Guys, at the risk of sounding harsh, I can't believe that so many individuals on here are just making up their own definitions of fitness to tie in with their preconceived notions of who's fittest.
With such a broad, generic term, the only viable framework for this type of discussion is that determined by sports scientists or similar experts, and I've already posted an example of the criteria. Totally bizarre how people are just ignoring that and opting for their own definitions such as saying fitness is basically a measure of VO2 Max.

I think it's really the mental strength required to compete in boxing that sets them apart as athletes. As opposed to pure 'fitness'.

All depends, i remember seeing Bradley Wiggins in Superstars, and he was probably the worst runner i've ever seen.
And then Amir Khan was hopeless at the arm dips.

And arn't Nordic skiers supposed to be the fittest?

Cycling shortens the hamstrings. Hamstrings play a very important part in running. An excuse I know - but a very genuine reason why all the same.
