RIP MIKE BARRETT

Post by ERIC GUY »

Just read Boxing News and found out that Mike had passed away, Mike was a really nice guy, and he helped me get started in my Boxing work.
I worked for Mike on a few events in 1988-89, and that was a great experiance,
I used to train at the Lonsdale gym in Carnaby Street, and Mikes fighters all trained there, Derek Williams, Trevor Currie, Gary Jacobs, Carlton Warren, Ian Strudwicke, he had Bobby Neill as his trainer, great old times.
Mike was alway honest with his opinions, he lost on a lot of the promotions.
I remember once we had no TV at the Albert Hall, Gary Jacobs and Derek Williams topped the bill!!!! he must have lost a few quid then....

Mike Barrett was a real gentleman. I worked as his matchmaker in my early days, on his annual charity dinner show, which was held @ The Hilton Hotel. He was always very generous towards me & looked after me very well. I last spoke to him a couple of years ago & he said that he was very pleased for me the way i was progressing in what he still called "our buisness" ! My thoughts & prayers go out to his daughter Mandy & the rest of his family. R.I.P Mike

Mike turned his back on the Cartel after the Chuck Gardner fiasco in 1987, going it alone.
The man had dignity.
