Lonsdale belt For sale

Is it really worth the 10k its up for at this time? I really want one but if Randy Turpins went for 25k and was better quality is it worth me buying this one? please help.

You can't really expect the board to financially support every fighter that spends he's dough & needs a few quid . Unless your lucky or have a good head , most of us will cone to a time when your on the floor & can't see an out. I live my life getting by. Maybe Jeff Thomas can shed some light on this. The lad who is selling it is a bodybuilder and a friend of Jeff's.

My thinking is that this belt was never fought for but bought at auction or from the manufactuers. Ricky Hatton bought one direct as he never won one outright.

Randy Turpins went for £25k but his was solid gold and porceline. The new ones are gold plated and enamel.

Your right the same belt now just in scrap value would be more then Double that Gold's gone Crazy...... Anyone know how much it would be to buy direct?

I think that there should be a new one with UV ligts built into it so that it looks kinda 'Tron' ish?

I don't believe anyone in their right mind would consider bidding in the thousands for this belt without actually seeing and examining it . I notice that the photos on ebay are not clear . The most important part of the belt is the discs detailing the fights the owner won to win the belt outright ,and these are not shown . If they were shown that would make all the difference because whoever won the auction would either have the true belt or they could prove that it wasn't simply by taking the belt to a science lab for examination . I remember a few years ago someone 'winning' a boxers pair of trunks which the seller claimed had been worn when he won a title . When the threads of the trunks were examined under a miscroscope they were proved to be too new for the alleged age of the trunks .
When these belts are auctioned by professional auctioneers the full history of the belt can be desmonstrated .
Maybe the belt is genuine , in which case I wish the seller and the buyer the best of luck . It would be a beautiful piece of boxing history to own . Perhaps I'm just over-cautious .

There are many replica belt makers who reproduce the governing bodies. To my knowledge none do the Lonsdale belt, as well as this the makers of the belt who have written an insurance valuation WILL NOT sell ANY to the general public. This belt is genuine and I wish the current owner all the best and I am jealous of the new owner lol.

I'll be honest, I can really understand selling if your double skint. For.one reason or the other , at times you need a pound note or two. It is a shame though that a belt I would cut me nuts off for would sell for that. I'm a real miserable $&$/ and the fact I'm now a name. Keeps me going. If I won that belt but had to cash in, I'd feel I'd sold my sole.

If it was me I'd pawn it.

Yeh the guy who owns it got it for his birthday a few years ago but is selling it now due to having a baby on the way, he told me as i've been bidding on it, its at 15k how much is too much? how often do they come up for, as i've not seen one up for sale for a long time. The guy needs me to reply tonight as their's someone that is ready to pay him 15k an pick it up Friday... So any ideas what to do?

Ronnie Claytons got £2600 in 2006 at Bonhams.

Tancy Lee's belt which was a gold one from 1919, sold for £19000 in 2005, but remember that this belt was 9ct gold and the others mentioned were silver gilt.

I'd say this one would be a better investment if you have the money, its Jack Hoods Lonsdale belt from 1920's . Its one of the origanal 9ct belts, and seems that the guide price is 15-20 grand. The Auction is on 18th August

yes your very right i won it out right and truth its in the top wardrope and it never gets to c day light along with the 6 other belts i have only come out when people ask but will the value go down if some other former champ puts there s on

that what it made remember it was cheap as he turned over a different life i read somethink about it in the boxing news and his common wealth belt also was sold along with everythink from the sport

Its the 5th Earl that started up the National Sporting club, he lived till 1944. so if the signitature is original than 1931 would be in his lifetime.

other signings i've seen from him, just have Lonsdale .
