Going off the Gavin Result the Board couldn't turn you down if Ashley Theophane was to give you a Voluntry Defence for the British, id push to see if you could get that :TU:

Who would that be? Gavin? imo Ash lost out on his big night with Gavin, i think Curtis has given him a shock to the system and now Gavin will train Properly live the life other wise he aint going to be the Star that So Many had thought... I think Gavin will look Brillent in his next fight.. Iv done a lot of sparring with Theophane would prefer to spar him then Matthew Marsh it just goes to show that training hard and Lives the Life Which he does do 100% works No disrespect to him but i didnt think he'd go on to do what he did.. When we was both at the TKO he was offered a lot of fights some being for Titles Commonwelth etc and just just kept turning them down.. If Feankie does get this Fight by being Mandatory then Theophane wont get half as much as what he was offered a Voluntry like last time, imo what ever bids FW he'll win might only 50k odd, 60 40 to the Champion.. Who is a Ash with?

Ashley also said he wasn't going to defend the belt, but he did, in a voluntary.

As I say, we'll see....

99% of Boxing fans gave him NO chance against Frankie Gavin. I'll be the 1st to admit, I also gave him little chance.

Curtis had already been defeated by Jay Morris & Peter McDonagh. So techinacally what chance did he have against Gavin?

Gavin was ABA Champion, Commowealth Games Gold Medalist, & Britians ONLY ever Amatuer World Champion. And here he was facing a man, who'd NEVER boxed amatuer and never started the sport until the age of 25.

Even Gavin seemed to show Woodhouse little to no respect.

But Curtis goes out and proves all the douters wrong, giving Gavin the fight of his life and losing a razor close SPLIT Decision. And a few of my friends actually thought Woodhouse had done enough to win it.

For someone who never boxed amatuer and never took up the sport until 25 and lose a razor tight decision to Britians hottest prospect, is a amazing story.

Woodhouse is a pretty inspiriational story, for fighters coming into the game late or having no amatuer fights.
full respect, but he lost !

Only by split decision. I had Rocky up by 2, but I'm biased.

About 95% of people were wrong, because they prognosticated that Curtis was going to be massively outclassed. I get your point, but Curtis did infinitely better than the prefight consensus view, and I think that's what most people are lauding him for.

Jessi,
In truth, you're hedging your bets.
First you say he'll never win the British Title, then you say "I doubt it" !!
You should just buy into the story.
Curtis has done brilliantly and conducted himself in the proper manner.
Gavin has done mediocre and conducted himself like a prat.
If he does make it to the top domestically it will be fantastic, and it won't be for the want of trying.
Equally if he doesn't make it, he won't feel sorry for himself, or blame anyone else and he will keep his dignity.
Top bloke, and I wish him all the best.

Twenty Six,
Curtis has done very well.
He performed excellently in one fight, well in others, and poorly in a couple.
Curtis and Frankie both seem like good lads to me.
The reason Curtis is getting the props he is getting is because his opponent wasn't mediocre.
Frankie might not yet have set the world alight as a pro, but to suggest he's been mediocre while Curtis has been brilliant is laughable, even for one with the most biased regional standards.
I wish both lads the best.

James,
My comment was meant to be about the fight.
By that I meant Gavin did not perform, and on the run in to the fight PR wise had a disaster.
Equally Woodhouse put on a brilliant performance, and on the run in to the fight PR wise conducted himself well.
Having said that, yes, I am biased !!! :TU:
I've been a follower of boxing too long to remember, and the truth of the matter is of the two who will go further then the answer is Gavin.
However, I hope he gets his issues outside the ring sorted.
Sloppy attitude to weight, etc etc.

Fair enough, good post and I was probably a bit quick to jump on your original comment.

PR-wise, I was very surprised the way this forum reacted to Frankie and if that is indicative of a wider view, then yes I'd have to agree the build up has not resulted beneficially for him. It's difficult because Frankie is genuinely a very decent fella, great sense of humour, great way with people etc but perhaps it's just not being revealed as much as we'd like at the moment. Since the fight, I think Frankie has remodelled his approach and suspect that it will have been one of the best things to happen to him in his career to date - the fight will end up having two winners. As for Curtis, he has conducted himself superbly ever since crossing over, winning over many of his critics along the way. I really do hope he gets that Lonsdale belt, would be a wonderfully inspiring story.

Thanks for that James.
Ultimately as a boxing fan, then I would dearly love Frankie to fulfil all the expectations placed on his shoulders.
If lessons have been learnt then that's great - because it proves to me that his ego maybe isn't as big as being portrayed.
I'm sure you'll agree that sometimes the "myths" surrounding some boxers is a million miles from the truth.
Anyway onwards and upwards for both fighters - and hopefully success for both.

when did i say he would never win a british title ? i put a question mark after saying "will he ever win a british title" then i said i doubt it (imo). :shame: read carefully before commenting :shame: . and just for the matter, yes curtis did impress me that night, very much so, i still tip gavin to go all the way ! imo he underestimated curtis and learned another lesson in the pro game ! :TU:
