Tony Bellew vs Paul David - 17th Sep @ Olympia, Liverpool
Re: Tony Bellew vs Paul David - 17th Sep @ Olympia, Liverpool
I heard a phone in with Tony & he said that no one would meet him so he was left with facing David. Not his fault if thats the case. He posts on here so maybe he can clarify that himself.
Re: Tony Bellew vs Paul David - 17th Sep @ Olympia, Liverpool
This is is a mismatch!!!!!!!!!!!

Is McIntosh still the mandatory challenger for the British title?Cardiff-Lad1 wrote:Not doubting that but surely any LHW would wanna challenger for the British and Commonwealth titles?!?! Danny McIntosh stated a while ago that he was prepared to fight Bellew but the money offered was rubbish......
Re: Tony Bellew vs Paul David - 17th Sep @ Olympia, Liverpool
McIntosh asked for world title fight money FACT
I'm not getting into who knocked it back as I'm not the matchmaker! I know Dean works endless hours and he really has tried his best! Time will tell who I'm willing to face and who is willing to face me!
As for Cardiff, tell ya what, your bet for the Ovill fight paid off didn't it mate
like I said he would, he got toyed with, I've shown that side to me now and come a new opponent people will see another side to me, all I will say is that, you will know who I'm fighting when you see us face to face! Until then it's all just speculation in my book! Until someone turns up and signs a contract it's just paper talk
As for it being a full house if Paul boxes, Your right, Paul is a fantastic ticket seller as is Derry Matthews, Tony Dodson, Tony Quigley and Rocky Fielding! All sell good amounts of tickets, I sense that is not the reply you were looking for Cardiff!

McIntosh does not wanna fight me! For the last time, he never has and he never will! If I were him I'd be screaming to fight me! I have 2 things he wants! It's called British & Commenwealth titles ![[icon_wink.gif] ;-)](./images/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif)

It's ok if it's a keep busy fight, which I presume it is. David might cause a couple problems with his unorthodox style early but Bellew should be too strong and powerful stopping him in the middle rounds IMO.
Re: Tony Bellew vs Paul David - 17th Sep @ Olympia, Liverpool
i cant see what warrants smigga being this big draw as ive never saw him in a good or noteworthy fight id remember, he aint no mug & i knew degale was special when he beat him, but he still aint great to watch.
paul david will cause a few problems i think. he aint blown up either but inactive & not really ready for a busy fighter like bellew at the moment but thats the buisnesas & fighters ALLWAYS NEED TO BE PREPARED,sorry caps

enzo has been sparked 3 times out of his last six fights :!: & being some of the worse ko's ive ever seen a fighter repeatedly take.
how does dropping a division & having one fight warrant an eliminator you numpty![[icon_shame.gif] :shame:](./images/smilies/icon_shame.gif)

I was a bit gutted when I heard this match up. I think Bellew will stop David within 6, he'll have learnt his lessons about the style from the Ajisafe fight and Ajisafe is a better fighter than David imho.
If not Clev then I think the best fights for Bellew now are either Travis Dickinson or a return with Ajisafe. If he has more results like his last one then Ajisafe could be mandatory before the end of the year. Obviously there's McIntosh but that sounds a million miles away from being made.

I'm not sure Danny would not want to fight Tony as he had no problem travelling over to France with two weeks notice against Karl for the EBU and then against Gutnecht in Germany so he's certainly game and up for a fight.

If all these Brits are running scared what about international opponents like Chris Henry, Yusuf Mack etc or are they too expensive?

Re: Tony Bellew vs Paul David - 17th Sep @ Olympia, Liverpool
I thought the promoter was lining up a big PPV show for Sept or Oct, along the lines of the Magnificent 7 bill last year; Sky have pulled the plug on PPV shows for the foreseeable future, and that leaves a big hole in the cash flow forecast. Presumably Sky is happy to have that proposed bill fragmented over several Saturday night shows, of which Bellew vs David may be one.
Sky's decision on the PPV's has big implications for promoters who use the platform to fund expensive fights. I'd have thought DeGale's european title fight would be expensive to stage, for example, and that it would have been more cost effective to add it to a mega-show that's on PPV.
The promoter in question isn't staging a lot of shows at the moment, and over the last 12 months, when compared to his usual output of promotions. DeGale fought five times in 2009, four times last year, but so far only twice in 2011. Chisora, Bellew and Cleverley have only fought once so far this year. Let's hope they are soon back in the ring

A European title shot should never be on ppv. The problem he got is he paying Degale too much per fight. Degale does not sell many tickets.JimJim2009 wrote:I thought the promoter was lining up a big PPV show for Sept or Oct, along the lines of the Magnificent 7 bill last year; Sky have pulled the plug on PPV shows for the foreseeable future, and that leaves a big hole in the cash flow forecast. Agree one hundred percent. The chickens are possibly coming home to roost; DeGale's purported £1m signing fee, and fifty grand plus purses every time he fights, when he doesn't have a hometown fanbase to speak of. Arguably it was all going well until Groves derailed the gravy train. That loss, and Sky's decision on PPV shows, has put a spanner in the works. The funny thing for me is, DeGale and Groves may well have been kept apart until they both reached higher levels, but Frank called for the match on live TV and made it his priority. A case of, be careful what you wish for

I think if you take the eliminator element out of it then it stands up as decent fight to make. Enzo would certainly be more of a challenge than Paul David. However, I think Enzo needs at least one 'warm-up' fight at light-heavy to prove he can look OK at the weight and get some rounds under his belt before facing a puncher like Tony - looked what happened to Chris Byrd when he tried to make that drop down.hurlock wrote:enzo has been sparked 3 times out of his last six fights :!: & being some of the worse ko's ive ever seen a fighter repeatedly take.

This date is only next month - and Bellew has tailored his training for this date for a while - when was Macintosh offered this fight ?
What roughly is "World title money" - were there any other "options" attached ?
A bit like Rogan / Fury, it is too simplistic to suggest that one fighter doesn't fancy it. It is also frustrating when one party alludes to the money offered without revealing the full facts (IMO they should either say nothing or tell the full story).
I would say that generally speaking, all pro boxers want the opportunity to fight for titles. Also, by the nature of the athlete, they would also be willing to face any other boxer of the same weight. Maybe the more sensible ones want to box in conditions where the playing field is more level, and the odds are not stacked against them so much.

Was under the impression it had been confirmed some weeks ago on the promoters website .. guess I am wrong.
Thanks anyways.

Its the promotors job to help build up a fanbase! Why were they on 50K plus purses for 6 round fights!

Yeah the 'He asked for world title money' is VERY vague. More like he was offered the sharp end of the deal to fight in Tony's home town at short notice.bripez wrote:I agree.Final round wrote:I'm not sure Danny would not want to fight Tony as he had no problem travelling over to France with two weeks notice against Karl for the EBU and then against Gutnecht in Germany so he's certainly game and up for a fight.

Bellew will win this easily.
