Michael Elliott
Michael Elliott
A lad down the gym with us travelled to london and said this guy called Michael Elliott has offered to take him pro. This Elliott guy was claiming to have the most fighters in the UK and currently manages Danny Williams. Any one have a clue who he is or a link to his site?

Sorry for my ignorance, but what does 'paying the house' mean?Londonirish wrote:He does manage Loads of Boxers but not that many from Britian, imo i wouldnt turn over there aint No money in it unless you willig to be a journey man fight 3-4 times a month.. I'll just say lads that if your a good journeyman you can do more than ok. What bugs me a bit is lads getting laballed journeyman after just a couple of losses. Me & a few others are proud journeyman who get a bit pissed at the Latvian lemmings going over after one punch & being laballed journeyman, rather than not good enough. We do a job even most winning fighters couldn't manage.
Re: Michael Elliott
Well im trying to tell the guy down the gym that he is better off going semi pro to have a few bouts first. I'm a amateur and I want to be fully prepared if i go pro but this lad just see's that he wants to be pro and fighting active. As id not heard of this guy i was very skeptical, I was trying to get him to try Steve Wood, Tommy Gilmour or someone similar that are renowned for looking after their fighters.

In my experience , unless you have a few am titles &o a good past , the big players won't touch you with a shitty stick. Coming from nothing you'll have to go with the likes of micky. He knows he's stuff . If you ain't top notch or sell tickets you have to try your luck on the road. Even then being good enough to beat a few boys, small hall. You won't get work
Re: Michael Elliott
Yeah I agree with that. Which is why i want to hone myself a bit. Had 9 amateur bouts and i want to reach 25 or so. Get a decent following along with it. This lad has had no bouts yet which is why i think it may be a bit soon. Although he just wants to fight pro because he despises the point scoring system so it may be worth a risk to him especially with him being out of work.

Re: Michael Elliott
Hello chaps, it's me, THE Mickey Helliet! Someone just rang me & informed me I had my own thread so thought I'd best check it out.
FYI my sites are;

www.michaelhellietmanagement.com
www.hellraiserpromotions.com
Yes I manage about 55 UK based pros, mainly guys from London & the south of the UK. Every boxer is different. Some guys want to be built up and be developed slowly, others want to make as much money as possible as quickly as possible. Just because a boxer loses a lot of fights it doesn't mean he's been badly managed, neither does it make him a bad fighter. I have (among others) Danny Dontchev, Bheki Moyo and Louis Byrne. They have lost a lot of fights but also made a good living and if you check their records you will see they are matched carefully & v rarely get stopped.
Then I have other guys like Wayne Alwan Arab, Matty Tew, Wayne Goddard or Mark Coombs who are all good ticket sellers so as a manager I can help them build their records. Given the choice I always prefer to build guys. A good example would be Sam Horton who boxed for peanuts on a load of shows early in his career but then got some v good pay days thanks to his impressive record later on in his career.
Anyway just thought I'd say hi, enjoy the forum and just one last thing, cheers for saying I know my stuff Johnny, I'll u another job for u soon!

Being a journeyman is a proper trade, they are worlds away from tomato cans
Re: Michael Elliott
Mickey Helliet is one of the good guys
(he also makes only a very modest living out of the sport - so no blaming him for why so many fighters make v little)

Re: Michael Elliott
mickey is my manager and can't say a bad word he's done me proud so far. what your friend has to understand is that boxing isn't just a game where you decide you want to play and pick it up as you go like football or tennis boxers get hurt!!! I will say however that if your friend is adamant about turning pro there has been a few good fighters that had no amateur experience. if anyone would know how to manage him mickey would and as long as he sells tickets he'll be fine if not he better be tough and durable like ya man johnny greaves. anyway all the best to you and your friend in your careers.

Re: Michael Elliott
Totally agree with you Johnny, there are definitely different levels of 'journeymen'. I understand that it's important for journeymen that they don't get injured because they need to be out again in a fortnight or whenever. But I've seen some journeymen give it a go like yourself, Delroy Spencer, Howard Daley ect. Whereas as others don't look interested at all and are happy enough with it so the prospect learns nothing and it does nobody well.johnnygreaves wrote:I'll just say lads that if your a good journeyman you can do more than ok. That's why journeymen like yourself are so important to the game and why all fans should appreciate what you do.

I have no objection to the journeymen making a decent living by doing what they do, and they do seem decent guys. But its all more than slightly bent isn't it? Personally I never watch bouts involving journeymen as the result is mostly known beforehand - ever tried to bet on them? Keep screwing the punters guys!

Re: Michael Elliott
When your building up a fighter, its very important they get an education into pro boxing, doing the 3 minute rounds , no fight against us is a gimme. You come out trying to bash us up & boxing like a fool your gonna get beat . Fighters with winning records don't want to or shouldn't face other winning fighters to soon or before getting much needed experience in the game first. That goes for even the very best. It's not am anymore.

Re: Michael Elliott
The way you lot are making it sound, its like we get a few quid if we let em win. You might before you take it to move the lad around. Even still of the boy tried to knock you out you go for it. I had one like that a few weeks back but never again. The only way its a little bent is when you well do enough & get shafted against the home boy. I always give my moneys worth & resent people knocking us

Re: Michael Elliott
Alright bill, you've got a point on that Moore one. To the last poster, your a little wrong I think. In nearly all my fights I've gone to have a go & on quite a few times I've done more that enough to get the nod. Any boy that hasn't kept up the boxing I've given them a mare. It's not reflected on my record but that's boxing. Not down to me giving fights away
Re: Michael Elliott
I don't want to offend anyone and I know as well as anyone that without people like Mr greaves there would be no boxing. I also know that the majority of journeymen don't ask for sympathy but it does annoy me slightly when people say how its not fair that they get the wrong end of a lot of bad decisions and how hard it is for a journeyman (not that I think its easy) the truth of it is that they don't have any hassle of selling tickets and most of time they get paid more than the ticket seller!!! Take me for instance I have sold near or more than 100 tickets for each of my fights apart from one where I sold about 75 in none of those fights have I walked away with more than my opponent and in the one where I sold 75 tickets I only ended up with £300. now I'm not in it for the money because I honestly believe I will go on to win titles and its more about glory for me but its people like myself (there is a lot like me) trying to get somewhere with no backing that struggle the most. I move away from my family and stop working for a few weeks before each fight to train how I feel a fighter should train and having a fight ends up costing me thousands of ££££ where I should really be earning from fights. someone once said to me a boxers contract is as close as you can get to slavery and I agree!!!

Re: Michael Elliott
Fair play, I'm with you on that. I'm only making the point that I don't throw fights. I do my best on the night for the majority of contests. With a couple of others I could maybe have injury or a few things in the past have kept me out the gym. I love my job with a Passion, and always try to do a good job. I'm no fraud . Selling tickets didn't appeal to me . I just love to fight . Getting paid is nice but its not money its love
Re: Michael Elliott
I think personally the majority of journeymen do go to have a go. like you say you can't prepare properly so it doesn't always work out. I think you all do a great job I couldn't do it cos as much as I am not a sore loser I'm a nightmare if the decision is wrong!!!
Re: Michael Elliott
More like eighty plus tickets now matebilly bessey wrote:people need to start waking up to certain managers they sign em on the boxer has to pay£600 for medicaks e.t.c unless you sell 50 tickets plus you dont get on home shows so you have to box away from home v prospects the manager takes 25% off you. Than after a few stoppages the board take your licence off you. Tell your mate it really doesnt take a lot to become a pro but staying there and earning a living(without getting bashed about) does. not an easy game
