East Coast experiences earthquake.
I was in my cardiologists office for a routine check-up a couple of hours ago when the room shook pretty good for about 15 seconds. Nothing fell over but for us here,is quite unusual for a bldg to shake unless something very bad happens terrorist wise.It registered 5.9 here in NY,and they are saying it was centered in Virginia somewhere.No big damage reported,just alot of talking.

Now I do realize that you guys in So Cal or even the entire West Coast get these often like you guys get your morning coffee, but we get them this big every 10-12 years or so.
If gets us East Coasters talking and calling our family members saying "Did you feel it ?".

I'm sure it would be the same for you guys if you guys got a foot or two of snow,sending everyone scrambling for snow shovels-if there are any out there !

My ticker is fine,I know your new here so I'll keep it brief, 10 yrs ago I was involved with the World Trade Center in a big way. Since then I devloped asthma and reduced lung function that Thankfully I keep in check with meds. 3 yrs ago, I woke up one morning with my heart in atrial fibullation (rapid heart unequal heartbeat) due to lung deficiency and the way I slept.
The hospital pretty much righted the situation right away with no heart damage.Thank God for that too,but as a consequence,I take some cardio meds to keep it from hopefully rearing up its ugly head in the future. Every two weeks I get blood test done on coumidin level, with 3 month check-ups for cardio and pulmonary docs. So far so good,but lungs are my main concern. Several other firefighters I worked with after the collapse of the Towers are passing away,and quite a few more are developing cancers from the dust.
Life is Good and I live it to the fullest every day,with no regrets.

In a perfect world, I'd live Memorial Day to Labor Day in Sweden, and Labor Day to Memorial Day in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Sweden is good to visit, but no place to live if you like free thinking :(

I hate the cold and I'd hate to give up my "free thinking", but a change might be good if a couple of Scandanavian blondes were part of the deal?
I know that beauty exists in all parts of the world, however, when it comes to looks Scandanavian women are second to none.

Did you really think "great summer weather" and "family heritage" are the only reasons I want to live there?

I remember when the Whittier-Narrows quake struck in '87, same thing 5.9
I was working on "Highway to Heaven" Stage-22 at MGM in Culver City, about 20 miles across town from the epicenter.
Now the Eastside guys might have felt it stronger as it was right in their neighborhood, but we didn't even evacuate the stage.
Mike Landon had just finished filming a shot and yelled, "Cut". Ironically, in the scene Landon (an Angel) was talking to God.
When he cuts the scene, he says "Print that one and let's move on." Suddenly the stage begins to shake a little and we all look at each other.
The shaking stops and Landon makes a joke, something like, "Maybe God didn't like that take." Then we set up for the next shot.
5.9 will definitly get your attention, but a 6.9 you'll NEVER forget!

Here's the reality in Southern Cal . . .

I'm visitng my friend down near the Marina Del Rey Peninsula. Driving down Pacific Ave., which runs along the coast line behind the beachfront buildings in Venice, I see signs posted on every block, warning people that they are in a Tsunami Danger Zone. As I turn up Washington Blvd. I'm driving away from the coastline. A couple miles away, as I approach Lincoln Blvd. another sign designates the area "Tsunami Safe Zone". My friend Ralph lives about a half block from the sand, on the Peninsula which seperates the boat docks from the ocean. A Tsunami would pretty much roll right over the Peninsula and flood the Marina basin, taking much of the yaught population and washing it back to Lincoln Blvd. Not to mention all of what is known as Venice. It's believed that a Tsunami the size of what hit Japan would wash away most everything from the coastline to Lincoln. Lots of people packed into that area. However, they probably won't be thinking much about a Tsunami after experiencing the earthquake that will trigger it.
