On April 29 this year Robert Whaley beat Stevie Ferdinandes for the PABA Light Welterweight title, he lost it last night to Brett William smith.
Two weeks from now Ferdinandes fights fellow Indonesian Jonathan Simamora for the "interim" PABA Light Welterweight title. How does that work?
PABA Light Welterweight Schemozzle
Re: PABA Light Welterweight Schemozzle
All in aid of Sanction $$$$$$ :P
Re: PABA Light Welterweight Schemozzle
thats very sad how its not about ratings or the best fighting the best for titles or champions its all about sanctioning and a promoter with abit of juice $$$
Re: PABA Light Welterweight Schemozzle
The question I was asking was what is the point of an interim title when there is an active champion?

Great question, If someone could answer that convincingly then there may be a job available for you as a spin doctor in Canberra.
Re: PABA Light Welterweight Schemozzle
PABA is WBA's regional body, therefore, it also likes the idea of "super champ" "ordinary champ" "interim champ" = heaps more sanction $$$$$$
Once upon a time "interim championship" was only permitted when Champ was unable to defend due to injury & would then need to defend against interim champ.
That was then & this is now, whereupon dandruff is classed substantial injury.
Daniel Geale was OPBF interim champ for yonks, but no way was he going to get a shot at Jap champ. In the end he ditched going down OPBF/WBC road & opted for IBF, which turned out a good idea.
However, most of current Oz regional titlists might as well stick with it (albeit incapable winning Oz title.....some not even State), providing they can find a sucker promoter prepared to cough-up sanction $$$$, so they can brag to their grandchildren 50 years from now
WBC showed a bit of class & replaced "interim" with "silver" = Same shit, but different colour

Canberra, London, Paris and Washington have nothing on the boxing organisations.Grant wrote:Brute wrote:The question I was asking was what is the point of an interim title when there is an active champion?
