Ray Mercer vs Jerry Quarry. What If?

Post by KOJOE90 »

If granite chinned former WBO title holder Ray Mercer and Jerry Quarry could have met in their respective primes who in your opinion would have won?

As often with Quarry a lot depends on what state his mind is come fight time, and to a lesser extent the same applies to Mercer.

If both were focused an 'up' for this fight it could be a good one. Mercer is big and strong with a very good jab but I see Quarrys better speed and counter punching taking him to a points win in a simular way to how he beat Ron Lyle.

Quarry WPTS12

But what do you think fight fans? :box:

I don't know where you are thinking these up from. I think you'd have to favour Quarry though in a good fight, and I'm basing that on Jerry having had more success and in a better era. Mercer could fight though, but he could lose to anybody as well.

I like Quarry in this one. Mercer was tough as nails, giving Lewis fits, but he did lose to an ancient Holmes. Quarry didn't have that shocking loss on his resume. I have visions of the Quarry that gave Frazier hell and I don't see Mercer beating that Quarry.

Never mind that shocker, Mercer also lost to Jesse Ferguson and could only draw with Marion Wilson!

Quarry by comfortable decision. Mercer had great offensive tools and an outstanding chin but he had bad stamina and was too one-dimensional. Quarry would have a much easier time with Mercer then he did with Lyle . .
