Deadlifts: Whats your MAX lift?
Deadlifts: Whats your MAX lift?
My max lift is 200KGS.
I just cant seem to get past 200kgs. Sometimes i drop down to 180kgs.
Anyone have any tips or know other exercises that may improve strength in deadlifts?

Pretty good.
Re: Deadlifts: Whats your MAX lift?
I may try a 1 rep max in a few weeks - thinking I might get a 150kg if I am lucky.

I'm weighing about 75kgs at the moment, so if I can get to 150+ I'll be happy.'Frilla wrote:Thats heaps good mate, soon you will be pumping more.EddieShredder wrote:110 at the moment, but only been deadlifting for 8 weeks, and started at 60kg
Re: Deadlifts: Whats your MAX lift?
Most ever, back in the day before I had kids
my weight was 145 lbs. my deadlift was 365 lbs.
Wide stance and keep the bar in contact with your legs the entire time.
Now that I have kids (my max was four years ago), I most just do body weight exercises. I want to make sure I can keep up with them as I age.

Re: Deadlifts: Whats your MAX lift?
PB is around 135kg (I weigh around 73kg), but haven't done it properly in nearly a year - shoulder impingement put me out for seven months and since then I've been struggling with an impinged nerve that doesn't stop me working out, but flares up under certain conditions... deadlifts being one of them ![[icon_witsend.gif] :witzend:](./images/smilies/icon_witsend.gif)

Re: Deadlifts: Whats your MAX lift?
Only done the deadlift four times in my life. Just tried my 1 rep max then for the first time and managed 105kg's. What kind of weight should I be doing in sets of 5?
Re: Deadlifts: Whats your MAX lift?
Judging by that I'd say around the 75kg mark, but if you've only just started doing it you should see your 1 rep max increase quite rapidly. How much do you weigh?Deadendgeneration wrote:Only done the deadlift four times in my life. Just tried my 1 rep max then for the first time and managed 105kg's. As of this evening 93.5kg's. Trying to get down to 90 or so then concentrate on losing body fat.
Re: Deadlifts: Whats your MAX lift?
mine is also 200kg.
to break through this plateu, one way is to set up the lift in a power rack doing partials with 220kg
1st set the safety bars at knee height and do that lift. you will find that if you cxan lift 2000 from floor youll lift 220 from safety bars. once youve done this start each sess then by lowering the bars 1notch until your back don at ground level

Re: Deadlifts: Whats your MAX lift?
I'd say 200% of your body weight is quite decent. Unless you consider yourself a power lifter, that isDeadendgeneration wrote:Only done the deadlift four times in my life. Just tried my 1 rep max then for the first time and managed 105kg's. What kind of weight should I be doing in sets of 5?
My advice would be: be careful with dead lift. Build it up gradually. Train for 4 rep max, not 1. Dead lift is a compound exercise requiring strength of the whole posterior chain. If one of its parts is weaker (usually erector spinae), you may injure yourself going desperately for that personal best. Make sure to keep improving your technique as you're loading more and more weight.
Good luck.

Another way would be to do some Smovlov Jnr training mate... Ben put me onto it a while back and it really helped me...
Re: Deadlifts: Whats your MAX lift?
Great, thanks mate. Will definitely givie it a go.
The only Smolov Jr training ive heard of was the one for the squats.
Im guessing i should do the same for the DL's.

Re: Deadlifts: Whats your MAX lift?
I have never felt comfortable performing deadlifts. I started including them regularly 3-4 yrs ago, and pulled something when lifting about 150kg for 5-6 reps. Wasn't seriously injured, but it was enough to make me overly wary.
Since then I only ever do light lifts, usually as part of my warm-up, and never to failure. Typically;
3 Sets - 60Kg (15-20 reps)
3 Sets - 100Kg (8 reps)
I think my problem is that I have long legs, which forces my upper body to lean forward so that I can pull the bar over my knees.

Re: Deadlifts: Whats your MAX lift?
Try lifting "sumo" style.... I had issues getting the bar past my knees without ruining my form, so was told to try changing to sumo deadlifts, and makes it much much easier for me to maintain the right techniquejonoevansla wrote:I have never felt comfortable performing deadlifts. Thanks for the advice, I train for a 5 rep max as suggested in Starting Strength. I got a bit of advice on technique at the gym this week and got my 5 rep max up to 90kg's

...and don't go for failure. Finish your set when you're quite exhausted but feeling you could still 'probably' squeeze another one.
