-The fight is in Broner's Hometown.

-Broner is managed by Al Haymon who's fighter always seem to get close or decisions they don't deserve.

-Burns dosent have that 1 punch KO power. So saying he needs to go over & KO Broner so they can't deny him, is hard to imagine. As Ricky just dosen't posses that type of power.

-Burns has NEVER fought out of the UK.

-Am also thinking the occasion MAY get to Burns. Big HBO fight, In The USA, Fighting A Loudmouth who is gonna talk tons of trash.

Burns has go what hes wanted, a live opponent.
Ive seen Broner twice, his last 2 fights and he's definately beatable although Burns is gonna need to be capable of another "Martinez night" to pull this one off.

I cant see the travelling being an issue, he's been a pro for a long time now and is well experienced for his youngish age.

Also the "Trash Talking" wont be an issue, this is the same guy who listened to Gomez talk nonsense before going out and destroying him and also the same guy who laughed when Martinez done the slit throat gesture. Burns likes to do his talking in the ring and hopefully he doesnt get robbed if this goes to the cards.

I hope everyone remembers these posts referring to the quality of Broner IF Burns wins, similar statements were being made when the Martinez fight was lined up and over time the memories faded to say "Hes a straight forward slugger" and taking credit away from the result.

Im by no means saying im 100% confident that Burns will win, i think hes capable of doing so and if he does then it will be another fantastic night for Scottish/British Boxing. (Scottish being the more important of the two) lol

I do not think Broner is a massive fav here as Burns definately has the chin and boxing skills to do a good points job on him. Only thing is I cannot see Burns getting anywhere near to a stoppage so then just hope there is no hometown scoring going on and the fight is scored fairly.

For me, Burns is a domestic operator, Euro at best. You couldn't have asked for an easier route to world honours than Martinez, barring the belt being made vacant and handed straight to him.

I don't rate Broner as a future star, nothing like it, but I'd still say he's a level above Burns if I'm being honest. He's certainly more formidable than the likes of Martinez, nowhere near as slow, crude and predictable, and even in the event that Burns is able to outbox him, I don't think he'll be able to avoid Broner's best in the same way that he was able to fend off and cope with Martinez.

I hope I'm wrong, I like Burns, but I really can't see this ending well for him.

Broner is certainly beatable. He rarely presses the action and the Litzau win needs to be viewed in full to see how it actually went.

No doubt Broner can punch, as Litzau is no bum but all three of his defeats came via stoppage.

Burns needs to feint and work his socks off for 12, which I know he can do. He just needs to be cute and not walk onto anything foolish.

If Ricky wins this it will really be a creditworthy victory. It's a massive challenge in every way, I don't see him having the speed to cope with Broner but I hope he proves me wrong. i think Martinez was an incredible victory and he will need to be at least on that level to have a chance in this one IMHO

His throwing of single shots inbetween periods of inactive posturing (call it the feeling out process but I'll call it what I did) or his taking advantage of Litzau's low left hand and then smashing him up when Litzau's guard was as tight as George Michael's mouth on Hampstead Heath.

He's quick, and he looks strong but he also looks open. When he swings that wide left hook to the head or body his right hand isn't kept tight against his chin and he doesnt always bring the left hand straight back after throwing it. His stance is also pretty wide which reduces some of his mobility (not saying he has bad mobility but just that he is hurting himself with his stance). This stance also increases the degree to which he has to punch up on the already bigger by 3 inches Burns. Maybe you think punching up at a taller opponent is better than having to punch down on a smaller one, but I'd disagree with you, hence my point.

The fight is not an easy one for either fighter and that is why it is a good one.

What the f**k has happened to boxing that people now think that taking a risky fight, away from home, when you're the champion is a bad idea. Isn't it about proving yourself as the best in your weight so that you don't sound like a f**king idiot by claiming to be the best without ever testing out your theory? Or are we all mini Don Kings and FW's just looking to make as much money out of the title while we have it by having easy defences at home so that people like us can come on here and spout off about how fighter X is getting sppon fed defences?

So winning a world title against the guy rated #1 or #2 in your division is an easy way to a title. Yep that makes perfect sense. So does now being rated #2 or #3 in the world yourself but just being a domestic operator.

Martinez was seen as someone that Burns had no chance against by the majority. It was all "fair play to Ricky for taking his last chance at a world title, but he won't win" Well look how that theory worked out!!

While they are terrific fighters, I for one would have more respect for people like Calzaghe if they had been more prepared to go after the bigger challeneges out there. I am a huge JC fan, but he will never be forgiven for not going to Germany, smashing up Sven Ottke. It would have made everyone see that Ottke was not #1 and would of also wiped away that L=0 column that the judges in Germany were so reluctant to take from Ottke's record.


This move by Ricky Burns deserves nothing but praise and I for one can't wait to be Ringside cheering him on!

Problem is that Burns is no Calzaghe.

It's a tough tough fight but Burns is the underdog with loads of courage, ability, heart and discipline.

Broner is still very young and Burns HAS to start well in the first 3 rounds to have any chance - If he starts like he did against Martinez it'll be tough.

It's a win-win for Burns now; the weakness of the division has ultimately led to this; if he loses then he went abroad and took the challenge on and can keep his head held high with his reputation still good in the UK where he can come back and fight Mitchell/murray etc and make more money.

If he wins then he goes down in Scottish folklore as a World Champion who fought the best there was in their own backyard and sent them home to think again!

I'm just looking forward to the fight May the best man win on the night!
