VOTE: MDT Title defences
VOTE: MDT Title defences
should managers that enter their champions in the MDT be allowed to keep their title and have their fights as defences or be able to keep their title and have a 'free' fight. the MDT is a great tourny only once a season, so come on guys lets allow this and make this great tourny just a tiny bit better.

Re: VOTE: MDT Title defences
I don't mind... I merely asked the commish I question on how he wants to play this (as it is a point of discussion) and it will be interesting to hear what the commish's ruling is.
If the WBA Title stays in the Million Dollar Tournament then the eventual champion will also hold a World Title, and doesn't that seem a just award?

Re: VOTE: MDT Title defences
yes we do agree on this and if their is unifications taking place all the better its a chance for a all in tourny with no ducking options and can only be good for the sim IMO and as you asked the question we might be able to make this even betterCrease wrote:I don't mind... Re: VOTE: MDT Title defences
Well, with 32 fighters already tied to this tournament it restricts the options for the defences of the WBC, WBO & IBF titles.DetroitHxC wrote:I can't really see the harm in letting the fights be title defenses.
The other 3 champions all have to fight what top 10 contenders they can find.
Whereas the WBA Champion could be said to have "easier defences" because his opponents might not be ranked all that highly.
So, therein lies a case of double standards.
Re: VOTE: MDT Title defences
I am not taking sides in this, but there is a good argument for either case.
It's a difficult one to work out.

Re: VOTE: MDT Title defences
To be honest, I am not FOR this or AGAINST this. I think the only 2 possibilities are:
1. Let Jackson defend his title in the Million Dollar Tournament.
2. Strip Jackson for not defending his title against a WBA top 10 contender.
Either way, I just don't think that this is an option, because then you are taking a world title out of the state of play:

Re: VOTE: MDT Title defences
You know what? I'm gonna say: YES.
Why should Johnson get punished for entering the tournament? It's not his fault (or his managers) that the first fighter drawn against him is not in a rnaked contender for his belt.
Jack Johnson is one of the greatest Heavyweights in history, let's give him a chance. Let him keep his belt and defend it to the best of his ability.
I am no fan of "paper champions"...
So hereby, Don Krease Promotions wishes old Jacko all the best in the tourney and hopes he keeps his belt, which he won off The Bad Man.
We vote: YES.

Re: VOTE: MDT Title defences
it used to happen all the time before the 3 defences rule and nobody ever seemed to lose interestDetroitHxC wrote:Yeah, I could definitely see some problems with it. Imagine if all the belt holders entered, I think that could lead to a broing season down the line if one person has all the belt's everytime we have a new champ. Then again, each belt has different rankings so they probably would split up eventually.
I think it would make the tournament a whole helluva lot better.

Re: VOTE: MDT Title defences
yep i think it is a good rule for that reason and should be kept however a drop of the rule once a year wouldnt hurt i dont think and all the top cotenders normally enter the MDT anywayDetroitHxC wrote:It does give more people a chance to win titles.Crease wrote:I like the 3 defence rule... They did this season. The tournament is loaded with talent.p4p1 wrote:yep i think it is a good rule for that reason and should be kept however a drop of the rule once a year wouldnt hurt i dont think and all the top cotenders normally enter the MDT anyway
Ali, Marciano, Frazier, Foreman, Holmes, Moore, Johnson, Holyfield and Liston.
Any of these guys could win it.

The MDT title comes around once a season and it's a great achievement to win it.
DO NOT TAINT THIS TITLE by allowing it to be thrown about. It's about who won the tournament, not what follows.

You're out of touch since you moved to Toon, lad. You got the wrong end of the stick.jBacca wrote:Or have I read this thread wrong?
Re: VOTE: MDT Title defences
Right, the other end of the stick then.
No I don't think champions or top ten contenders should enter the MDT. The MDT offers every other fighter a chance at claiming something significant.
I know people may struggle for matches, but is there a way to shorten the competition by scrapping the league then knock-out stage, and simply having a 32 man knock-out stage?

Re: VOTE: MDT Title defences
Middle ground. I don't think there's anything wrong with a fighter carrying his title into and through the tournament, but if he's drawn against an opponent who doesn't meet the requirements for a defence, then he should be stripped. That's the risk you take if you're going to enter someone who might have a title when the competition's run. There should be no free passes for anyone.
Re: VOTE: MDT Title defences
What he said. We don't mind dropping our prestigous WBU belt if we come up against someone who is ineligible. In my first fight, my opponent is eligible so don't see the problem with the belt being up for grabs.glittermonkey wrote:Middle ground. Re: VOTE: MDT Title defences
What will happen if all titlist decide to enter next season?
We might as well fornicate the season off and just have a bingo raffle after each draft.
How about we make the tourny winner mandatory for any dropped belts?

The winner always seems to have enough momentum that making him the mando is unnecessary.

Re: VOTE: MDT Title defences
Hmmm didn't even think about one of the belt holders being in this thing, but Johnson clearly is.
One thing is for sure, the belt won't be on the line unless the opponent meets the top 10 ranking requirement, which Schmeling doesn't. So we can either allow Johnson to compete with non-title defenses, and then go back to defending the belt once he's eliminated or the tourney ends. Or he gets stripped and competes in the tourney.
I'll leave it up to the managers.
