ive never posted on the pommy forum before..

anyway, i saw some highlights of the skelton fight and i liked what i saw. i mean he not the most talented fighter but he hits hard and he has a lot of puff for a 38 year old. that said i was looking forward to seeing him fight Danny, but i still belive that fight will happen so thats okay. if he could beat danny i would look to see him fight someone like McCall or Meehan.
do you think he could go in against some of the better HW's out there?
also does anyone know what recognised governing body has him ranked the highest?

Don't think the fight with Danny will happen now. Sports Network will have probably told him to go fornicate himself now, after tainting their big debut show on ITV by pulling out at the 11th hour, and who can blame them.

I've always liked Williams, and he's a ballsy character who has prevailed in tough circumstances, but he's had it and he might as well call it quits if he's going to withdraw from big events like this one.

Skelton's top 15 (just) with the WBO. He's in the lower echelons of the WBC, somewhere below the usually-published rankings.

Skelton has at least half a chance against anyone who can't knock him out and who isn't in good shape.

It's hard to talk about what Danny Williams can or cannot do at the moment, but there's no doubt in my mind that had he turned up to fight like he was supposed to do on Saturday then he'd have stopped Skelton inside 6 rounds. The guy is too slow, too basic and does NOT have a quality workrate.

Skeltons managment team keep mentioning John Ruiz as a possible target, i suppose they see him as the weakest title holder.
Can't see the Ruiz team going for Skelton, unless they offer him mega money, although Ruiz is probaly the weakest of the title holders, i'd still pick him over Skelton.

Have to agree.

I actually thought Skelton looked pretty sharp agaisnt Krence, his jab was a lot better and his punching was a lot tighter, looked to me like he has worked quite hard technically on getting his shit together.

Obviously he doesn't have that long left to learn, and I don't think he will be good enough to beat anyone with a genuine belt, but there's nothing wrong with challenging for world honours and failing and Matt impressed me with his class after the Krence fight.

There's no reason why he can't be in a competitive mauling match vs Ruiz.

it's not like ruiz is going to outclass Skelton really, is it.

John Ruiz would beat Skelton because he has a half decent jab, and wouldn't be outmauled on the inside, don't forget that Ruiz has beat Holyfield, Johnson, Rahman, Oquendo and Golata.
He is a decent heavyweight, although not exciting, i'd pick Ruiz to stop Skelton inside 5 rounds.

What do you think would happen if Skelton ever lost a fight? Seeing as he's 38, he doesn't have much time left, and he can't spend his time chasing after titles like the EU belt or WBU/WBF "world" titles.

I get the feeling that he might simply retire if he picks up a few losses, because I don't see how he could work his way back up through the British/Euro rankings considering his age.
