He hasn't improved one bit based on last nights performance. The Jeffries hype machine has ran its course, I cant even see him winning a British title never mind the World titles they talk about.

He looked pretty woeful, doesn't seem to be any thought behind his work.

He's only had ten pro fights ffs. :witzend: Is he not allowed to learn his trade?

How long do you think he needs?

Probably been boxing for 20 years, 100 amateur fights, 10 pro fights.

Something seems to be missing, and I think it is because he does not actually like boxing (he has said this himself and other boxers have said similar of Jeffries - I think he said something along the lines of he doesn't actually like boxing, but it is just something that he happens to be good at).

You can probably get away with it in a team sport, but in an individual sport as intense as boxing I believe that you need that inner drive to achieve your potential and that talent alone is not enough.

Guillermo Rigondeaux has had 8 fights, if the potential was there with Jeffries I think we would have seen it by now.

I agree that boxers have bad nights but it seems to me that at the moment Tony is having off night after off nights!!
Just seems to me that he is a bit stale, but didnt he move to train America to get rid of the staleness??

Yeh I think he's running out of esxcuses. I think Jim Watt hit the nail on the head, to me it's just poor technique. He is very basic and stiff, how do you lose that after 20 years of boxing?

I think yes, he was slightly disappointing - and I'm sure Tony himself more than anyone wanted to return and dazzle everyone following his American training camps.

At least he got some rounds in I suppose, but the worse bit for Tony, was he got cut again, so it's more stitches, more waiting around yet again for him to kick start his career.

But didn't he get his opponent swapped for a slippery southpaw at the last minute ? He started brightly enough but then it went through the motions somewhat.

He looked very ordinary last night, plodding forward without a real plan looking to labs his bombs, Brookes had the right plan to get the jab working and then letting go with combinations. Morby came to survive and done what he had to do

Guillermo Rigondeaux is one of the most successful amateurs of all time, which makes that a totally unfair comparison, about to watch the fight now as i was on the lash last night, but he cant look any worse than Gavin did last time out can he?

Have none of you watched a Chris Eubank fight? How many times did Chris do 'just enough to win'? He looked terrible in some fights.

Jaffa won every round against a tricky opponent and after a lay off. You're being too hard on him.

I'm not holding this one against Jefferies too much. When I looked a the replacement's record and saw at the weigh-in that he was big and in shape it had boring decision victory written all over it.

However I don't think the comparison with Eubank doing just enough to win is a valid one. The criticism is not that Jefferies fought boring but that he fought badly. He needed to stand off, use his jab and then pick his punches carefully, exactly what his trainer was saying. Instead he plodded forward and made it a lot easier for his opponent to spoil. Winning every round doesn't tell the whole story if they other guy is not trying to win.

Eubanks 'just enough to win ' fights were mainly for titles, Jaffa is way down the bottom of the ladder and satill failing to impress unfortunately, i think sky will think the same and i dont expect to see him live for a while until his potential improves in the paid ranks.

I know you're a fan mate but Jeffries himself, his trainer and his promoter all seemed disappointed with the performance in the post-fight interview. He wasn't impressive last night.

Jaffa seems like a quality bloke so don't wanna slate him but he hasn't looked great in his last few fights. when he first turned pro I thought he looked brilliant he was big and powerful and looked technically sound. it seems he has taken backwards steps not sure why tho he clearly has talent maybe he has aged early cos he looks laboured and stiff or maybe his heart just ain't in it. whatever it is unless he changes things he's not going anywhere fast.

A few years ago, we wouldn't even be hyping too much about a 10 fight novice. The last few years they are being brough on so much quicker and people seem to be expecting too much.

My position on Jeffries is he hasn't set the world alight yet, his style was obviously too amateur and Tommy Brooks obviously sees something in him to work with him. I still think he will do well, just needs to step up in the next few fights and then move on towards title shots by maybe 15 fights.

Time will tell if Jeffries is good enough, but I will still be supporting him.

To be fair, I don't think anyone's hyped him, it's more that people are clearly concerned about stylistic flaws and apparent fundamentals being noticeable by their absence.

I think he's decent, I just think he puts a lot of pressure on himself doing these video's etc- trying to keep his fanbase happy. He'd prob benefit from either a big step up, or some low key stuff over sea's - one or the other. Didn't think he was that bad the other night- balance looked better for a start.

He didn't use the jab enough and stopped moving his head toward the end. Led with the right too much, granted a honey punch on a southpaw but if non of the Super-Middles would take it why didn't they get a Light-heavy to put in front of him?

I thought I saw moments of improvement t be honest, bit quicker on his feet, better head movement in the most part, just didn't establish the jab enough for me.

Fair point. The obvious thing is he is a slower developer than he wants to be. Jeff T makes a valid point as well by putting too much pressure on himself to keep fans happy.
