Daniel Micaleff

Post by LucaDiCaro »

It has come to our attention that there are two Daniel Micaleffs boxing in Malta. The listing you have currently is http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer and on this listing you show him taking part in our event in Malta and fighting William Steel on the 10th September.

However it has come to our attention that the listed Daniel Micaleff is in fact the cousin of the Daniel who will be debuting in Ayr, Scotland on the 10th September and taking part in the Malta Boxing Commission sanctioned event on the 14th October

Can you please create a separate listing and move these two bouts.

Name: Daniel Micaleff

Sex: Male

Date of Birth: 24th May 1986

Division: Light Middleweight

Stance: Orthodox

Height: 5”4 1/2”

Alias: Spider

Country: Malta

Residence: Bellshill, Scotland

Birth Place: St Paul’s, Malta

I have made the change but can see there being much confusion in the future :witzend:
The newer Micallef should be forced to box under a different name, and maybe this should be suggested to him.
Here in Britain there is a rule which forbids such a name clash, only a few days ago a young boxer was in action here who fights as Robert Dixon, his real name is Craig Dixon but because there was, until a couple of years ago, a boxer here named Craig Dickson, the name clash (although the spelling is different) was judged to be too similar and the newer pro had to box under a different name.
The Ayr show has been cancelled by the way.
Thanks for all the information :TU:

Hi,

Thank you for that.

Normally I would agree with you on this - but Daniel 'Spider' Micallef is a professionally licensed boxer by the BBBofC whilst the one you had originally listed (Commander) is an unlicensed boxer.

Like yourself I also expect some confusion with conflicting listings for Malta fighters, as BoxRec have been listing Maltese unlicensed fighters and events for years.

For reference the Malta Boxing Commission has only recently started licensing professional boxers in Malta, since becoming affiliated by the European Boxing Union in June, prior to that there were no professional Maltese boxers other than those licensed and living abroad.

This is simply not true, the official commission in Malta used to be the Malta Boxing Board of Control until they were suspended by the EBU on the 11th of June this year. There is now a new Malta Boxing Commission who have not sanctioned any shows yet, their first one will be Friday 14 October 2011.

Hi John

Whilst the Malta Boxing Board of Control existed, there were never any professional boxers licensed by them and they never sanctioned a single professional boxing event.

In fact the only events that were under their watch featured British and Maltese unlicensed boxers - This is the very reason why I previously requested that some distinction be made between those Maltese boxers you have listed that have fought unlicensed and those that are licensed as professional boxers by the Malta Boxing Commission.

If you contact Alexander Zammit - e.mail [email protected] - he will be able to verify the full situation regarding boxing in Malta, both past and present and hopefully the BoxRec records will be amended appropriately to prevent these misunderstandings in the future.

Kindest regards
