But there is something very underhand about this... Do you not agree?

Rogan will say that he is on the up and up, but I think this reveals the fact that Rogie knows he can't compete against good fighters anymore.

He can beat bums, gain as many accolades and trinkets that what he can get but he's opposition will be very telling.

I like Rogan as a Boxer for what he achieved for coming to boxing late and it was a good ride at the time, but reading this bollocks and dissolution of this crappy title is disgusting to the sport I think.

The board needs to ban these stupid WBU title's with fights, we have been through this farce all too many times before.

If he wants to fight a Journeyman by all means go for it on an undercard or a headline in the Ulster Hall, but this news is vile reading!!!!!!! :shame:

To mention the words WBU and Klitschkos and World Titles together all for facing a journeyman is hilarious!! :OhYes:

I live only miles from the arena and I for one will not be funding this farce of a fight.

Had this been a small show at the Ulster hall without all this rubbish with it, yes it would of been what it was and chances are I would of went. But morally I could'nt pay to be part of the circus act that it is, will it work in the Odyssey on a Thursday night I think he is having a laugh!

Couldn't agree more mate. The whole reeks of Rogan cashing in on his tough-guy reputation, while taking easy fights against bums.
How is that value for money?

I would have had more respect for Rogan is he just took a few fast-track journeymen, then took a shot against Alexander Dimitrenko for the European Title.
At least he can then said that he did his best and done everything right.

This whole thing (charade) reeks of the same bureaucracy with I hate in boxing.

For sure mate, it does seem like a cashing in parade, but I don't think he has the paying support for him to headline the Odyssey like this. I heard plenty of "Joe Public's in Belfast" who attended the second Sexton fight in the Odyssey saying they wouldn't pay it again for Rogan, that was what many people said. I have a feeling this will backfire.

Fury in the Kings Hall was a shot for him, despite what his opinions are on how the negotiations went, it was all there, Kings Hall, British and Commonwealth Titles, TV viewing and a traditional fight that was well acceptable, but most likely not winnable for him and then days later to announce this like he is the second coming of George Foreman, it's unbelievable

Agreed mate. I don't know what Rogan was trying to pull off there. He attends the Press Conference, causes a bit of a stir, then Tyson Fury offers to fight him for nothing saying he would give his proceeds to charity, and Rogan doesn't man up.
:shame: :shame: :shame:

He won't even fight the British Champion... Now he's telling the community that he's gonna be a world champion next month.
It's a sick joke, it really is.

with this weekend's great card, the following week's so-so card, how is this going to make any money whatsoever?

rogie had the chance of making much more money only he didn't go for the finish against sexton. there was talk of him possibly getting a REAL world title shot a couple of fights down the line, which could have made him a fortune.

ah well

Maybe because of that interview above. Jesus wept.

“For once in the history of Irish boxing, Irish fight fans are going to realise the dream of watching one of their own fight for a heavyweight title on home soil. I will be a world heavyweight champion on October 27. You better believe it!”

“I am going to become the first-ever Irish world heavyweight champion born and bred on this wonderful island. I am going to create a piece of sporting history for people to say they watched it being made in the historic city of Belfast, the fight capital of the world.”

“The WBU is a recognised title in world championship boxing and it will put me in the equation, big time.”

“On the night of October 27 when I am Ireland’s first real heavyweight champion, I will be calling on Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko to remind them that they don’t own all the titles and they will have to come to Belfast to fight me if they want to back up their claim to be the undisputed heavyweight team.”

Rogan could always fight Bobby Gunn for the "Bare Knuckle Title" in Benedicts in Shaftesbury Square Belfast seeing as Bobby Gunn claimed the title last held by John L Sullivan then the Klitschko's would have to take notice :OhYes: :box:

Rogan sold out the Odyssey in the second Sexton fight. In the first fight they closed off one section of the Odyssey, so it was 3/4's full at best.

After Rogan-Sexton 2 - a lot of people left that arena feeling short changed, they thought Rogan would have put up a better fight, and when the news about the injury came out, many of the casuals who showed up that night wouldnt have read about it and some of those that did read about it, will have asked, 'if he was injured - why did he take the fight'?

There is a lot of fake bravado going on here, Rogan was trying to say he was going to fight Fury in one days notice (i.e. he was reserve in case Chisora pulled out) but the reality is that he got a nice few quid to go over to that fight with little or no chance that it would happen. Then today I hear that Rogan claims that Fury was going to be offered the fight for the WBU, what a load of bollocks.

This fight is on a Thursday night and it is a shit match-up, really shit. It will absolutely bomb, I guarantee it. Even if by some way of miracle it sells out it will be a massive PR disaster, as the big pinata will get busted in the first or second round, without much fight. It will be a rip off.

Has anyone checked out the WBU site?:

http://www.wbu-boxing.com/

Scrolling down on this page. They have the following headline with pictures of Pukall with the WBU belt:

GENE PUKALL IS THE NEW WBU HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONGene Pukall is the new WBU heavyweight champion by tko in round 3 over Ingo Jaede with a big bodyshot

Their rankings also show:

Heavyweight

WBU World Champion

Gene Pukall ( Germany )

1. Wladimir Klitschko
2. Vitali Klitschko
3. Lucas Brown ( Intercontinental Champion )
4. Tomasz Adamek
5. Robert Helenius
6. Odlanier Solis
7. Alexander Povetkin
8. David Haye
9. Alexander Dimitrenko
10. Chris Arreola
11. Denis Boytsov
12. Ruslan Chagaev
13. Nikolai Valuev
14. Eddie Chambers
15. Sam Peter

Rogan nor Pineda are showing in their rankings? WTF!

Has Pukall been upgraded to some sort of "Super" champion and Rogie fighting for the "Regular" title?

Or is there a different WBU?

I think this underlines the notion that if Rogan wins this belt it means Pukall.

Been doing a little bit of digging.

The WBU was apparently dissolved.

A crowd in Germany re-started it. That is te title that Gene holds.

Supposedly this is a new company that was started in the US by Moose Lewis.

Both are new companies and cant claim the dubious legacy.

From May 2004

"Jennifer Robinson, the daughter of the late World Boxing Union (WBU) boss Jon Robinson is expected to send out a press release later today to clarify the latest situation regarding the Cambridgeshire based organisation.

American businessman Don 'Moose' Lewis is rumoured to be interested in taking over the WBU and giving it a higher profile in the USA."

It was never bought but he acquired the logo and the casting for the belt.

This thread of debate needs a boxing journalist to take up the baton and run with it. It needs Hauser like spotlight.

bit too much Rogan bashing atm

he has a manager like everyone else.

the fact is Tyson Fury's next fight is against a very average opp...and thats down to management.

you lot all sanction these ridiculous alphabet titles by subscribing.

i dont see what all the fuss is about

i still like Rogan :box:

I like him to.

I don't like the raft of sanctioning bodies and the BBBofC's inconsistent policy on approving their belts.

Simon v Dodson injured no reputation or standing.

Was dismissed.

Yet Rogan is allowed to fight for an equally spurious belt on home soil against a less qualified opponent than Simon.

It is a good platform for Rogan... But still, there's something about his lack of ambition. And this title is not as significant as Rogie is presenting it.
I don't have any problem with the belt per se. As others have said, if it was a low-key fight then no problem, with or without a spurious title tag. But that nonsense Rogan came out with in the press release is the problem.

As James Wilson pointed out, even Audley Harrison had the common sense not to claim his WBF belt was anything more than it really was.
