Hopkins-Taylor rematch possibly October 1st

This was announced as a possible date for the rematch at the post fight press conference. Venue to be the MGM again.

Something tells me Taylors camp will try to drag this out for as long as possible in the hope that Hopkins will become fed up and retire. They're not going to want to risk their man so soon in a fight he would be favoured to lose, and were it to happen by KO it would be a total disaster.

Hops looked like he could have gone another twelve rounds immediately after the fight - so much for the 40 year old being made look his age when Taylor was the one who faded and badly.

I would love to see Hops KO Taylor in the rematch and then retire with nothing else to prove. He said he wouldn't fight past 40 - he will be 41 in January, giving him one more fight. I also believe he will have gained a lot more fans after his effort in the later rounds and the decision going against him controversially.

Even though Hopkins blew it my lasting memory of the fight is of how supremely fit and strong he was. I think he'd be a pretty heavy favourite in the rematch, he could obviously do better while Taylor appeared to fight his best fight.

I kind of felt sorry for Taylor during his post-fight interview, he was talking almost like he knew he would have no choice but to face Hopkins again. He's the man of the moment but I think it will be short-lived, Hopkins will rip those belt back off him - maybe not in Jones Jr v Griffin II style - but he'll do a job.

I'd like to rewatch the fight, because I was so tired when it came on that I found it hard to score it properly.

a lot of those early rounds were close, I gave one of the first 4 a 10-10. Evenb the middle rounds were pretty close, it wasn't until the 9th on that Hopkins really made the big surge, and by then Taylor with the aid of the crowds cheering

I have a nasty feeling the return match never happens. I believe someone who has been at the top as long as Bernard deserves another crack especially in a tight fight like that.

I thought Bert Sugar was off the mark when he predicted Hopkins in 11 but it didn't seem so out of the question late on, if Hopkins had applied himself more i feel he could have pulled it out of the fire. Bring on the rematch and i think if Hopkins really sees it as his penultimate fight it would be great to see him go for it. Even though he is a slick boxer he can string classy shots together when needed and i feel he could stop Taylor in the return.

October 1 rematch not likely!
It took 15 stitches to close a gash on newly crowned undisputed middleweight champion Jermain Taylor's head, which was caused by an accidental headbutt in his bout with Bernard Hopkins. Taylor also reportedly suffered a concussion, so it is unlikely he will be ready to defend his title by the October 1 date that has been initially mentioned for the contract-mandated rematch.

Looks like the new golden boy is as good a runner as the previous one. So many similarities it's sickening.

Leonard strung Hagler along until Marvin quit and went into commentating. It was only then he relaced the gloves. Taylor (or more likely, his influential backers) will string Hopkins along until a) he's too old b) he gets sick of it all and retires.

They know Hopkins has knocked out everyone he's rematched and were VERY uneasy as the fight neared the end. Watch from round 10 on and listen for the decrease in shilling by Merchant and Lederman, while keeping watch of DiBella's face at ringside.

I must admit Di Bella looked despondant at the end and Taylor didn't even raise his arms, he had a look of resignation on his face which echoed back to DLH-Mosley II especially the surprise on his face when he had his name called as the winner. Hopkins to win the rematch inside the distance, his fight with Trinidad is still one of my favourite fights, the way he dismantled the power puncher that night was a sublime display of Boxing.

Yeah, you usually only see skills like that in black and white.
