If Ricky can make the weight confortably enough fighting the Swed and the Kenyan, then surely he will make it comfortably when he has a major challenge.
You simpl haven't a clue how fighters make weight mate,go to a pro gym for 6 months and see what they need to go through and you will be disgusted by what you have just wrote! :shame: :shame: :shame:

What's your take on this Billy? Is the struggle to make weight getting to Ricky? If it is then moving up is the smart thing to do...

He can't necessarily give you an honest answer on that one. ;;-) But his post above implies that it's a huge struggle for Burns.

Think its the right decision to move up personally, he has struggled for a while now and with the greatest respect you can weaken yourself against the persons he has defended against and quite possibly get away with it, however, he would need to be in top shape and strong against Broner, that would appear not to be a possibility so it makes sense to move up with a decent automatic ranking with the WBO like all champs who move up get, rather than take a calculated risk and then move up if it goes wrong.

Right call in my book, disappointing to miss what would have been a good fight, however, its a no brainer on the health side, seen to many injuries from weight making, don't need another one.

Billy, usual smart answer from you big man, all the guy is saying is that we have not heard anyone including yourself ,big Alex,mr Warren or even any rumours coming out of gyms up here that ricky is starting to struggle at the weight. If he has been fair enough, however there was no mention of this after any of his recent fights,so it just seems strange now ,especially after you saying that you were sure ricky woluld beat this guy!

Obviously it would be disappointing if the Broner fight doesn't come off but it won't be a Frankie Gavin case of not making weight. If Ricky can't make weight then it will be because he can't do so safely and then I would 100% agree with his decision to vacate and move up.

Could we see Burns v Mitchell at Lightweight in some form of world title eliminator?
agreed he always looks in great shape but i was wondering if he was struggling because he doesnt have much bulk theres absolutely zero fat on him. Which usually means a fighters getting rid of muscle to make the weight.

watches some Youtube videos...

... he's a tough kid/unbeaten puncher/tricky fellow so we will need to be at the top of our game...

segue to...

...oh wait hang on, our kids had a big breakfast, we're now looking for a Klitschko.

BUrns and his camp made a wise decision because he really didnt have a snowball's chance in hell against Broner..

BUrns is just a decent domestic level fighter and should look for other fights.. After Mitchell gets knocked out by Rios, Mitchell/Burns would be an option...

I want to see Mitchell spank Burns..

There has been talk of Burns moving up in weight prior to this, I can remember even at the weigh in for the martinez fight that he looked desperate to get off they scales and get some liquid into himself. I know most fighters are the same at weigh ins but burns is huge for his weight.

This would have went down a bit better if it was released a couple of weeks earlier..... Obviously!!

aye but theres been loads of talk about Burns fighting Fana for Ring mag
maybe his team just palying hardball trying to get some extra cash

he should cash in if the moneys there and his team have said there more than confidenmt that Burns will win,

there was chants of simpson moving down and then that was kaboshed

if he is really really struggling then maybe right thing to do though

Would love to see him fight a big name but no doubt it will be a warren fighter

Hilarious, make a few easy defenses against hand picked bums, and the moment a dangerous mandatory comes along vacate with 'weight problems' and move up to lightweight to try repeat the cycle.

Thank you boxing, promoters, fighters, this charade is what multiple world sanctioning bodies has brought us.

No apparently he trains constantly maintaining his weight, if he cannot or it is becoming an obsession he should move up. Lets be honest he was always big at the weight, safety first

its a smart move. there is no way on this earth he goes to the US and beats Broner. he cant KO Broner so would have to proper whup his ass to get a draw..and thats not happening...so here's to his next fight against Mzonke Ubulugu from Djibouti at Lightweight :DDD

He should take the Broner fight and move up if he loses blaming weight making for the loss. Would losing to Broner really reduce his money making potential at lightweight a great deal?

If Burns vacates the title it is going to make him look like a joke.

If Ricky's physically able to take the Broner fight and Billy's confident they can beat him, then it's the best move currently available to them IMO. The belt is being 'bought' for Broner here, everything's loaded in his favour, but I think it's a risk that's worth Ricky taking. It will be the biggest purse out there and a higher profile fight than Fana — HBO will televise Burns-Broner but not Burns-Fana. Even if Ricky loses his stature won't change much in Britain. For all his good points he hasn't captured the public's imagination, sad but true — only 3,000 or so crowds in Scotland and his last fight was on a Liverpool undercard. Ricky hasn't got that much to lose except his belt, and he strikes me as the sort of fighter who believes that a world champion should be a man who takes on the best. If he can do the weight it's a no-brainer for me, take the Broner fight.

Ricky is massive for a SFW,he told be he even looked bigger than Khan on the Ringside programme,i would rather see Ricky move up in weight and be very very strong at it!
But beleive me he'd fight anyone at the weight anyone!
