Erin McGowan To Fight Acosta In Argentina

Australian, Erin McGowan (14-0) will return to the ring on September 9, 2011 at Club Estudiantes, in the City of Santa Rosa, La Pampa, Argentina. She will be fighting Argentinian, Monica Acosta (14-0-2) who is the current WBA Super Lightweight Champion and the WBC Light Welterweight Champion. The pair will be fighting over 10 x 2 minute rounds for Monica's WBA Super Lightweight belt with Erin keeping her WBO Lightweight belt no matter of the result.

The fight is being promoted by Arano Box, who is known for promoting multiple female bouts on one fight card.

Travelling half way around the world to compete against an opponent of Acosta’s talent speaks much of an unknown woman boxer, albeit a World Champion, Erin McGowan. On the other hand, Acosta’s acceptance to a bout against McGowan also speaks for itself.

Erin McGowan is prepared to enter and compete against the best in the Lightweight and Super Lightweight divisions. McGowan will arrive in Tampa, Florida on Monday August 29, 2011, to continue training under Angelo Dundee for her upcoming bout.

Both McGowan and Acosta have been in training for the past several months. McGowan was set to defend her WBO Lightweight Title against Amy Johnson but bout was cancelled due to Johnson being injured during training. Acosta has also been in training as she was set for a rematch and defense of her WBA and WBC titles against Alejandra Oliveras, who fought a brilliant 10 round bout against Acosta in their previous meeting.

The McGowan vs Acosta Showdown on September 9, 2011, in La Pampa, Argentina will be a historic bout for the Australian McGowan in that no Australian Woman Boxer has ever become a multiple world champion, let alone in two divisions.

I was speaking to Erins boyfriend today and he said Erin has trained well and is hoping to bring home both the WBC and WBA belts.
hopefully she can bring the belt back home to Australia.
