My head is still spinning over that possibility of winning on three out five sheets but losing.

Been reading over material daily I picked up which is very helpful. I would really like to work on the system in a training session. I believe it's the Swiss system. Wonder if it's the same technology used for the olympics for the swim meets?

There are definitely unexpected results with the ESS system, but remember, it's scored round by round, not using judge totals. So focusing on the judge totals just serves as a distraction. Counterintuitive, sure, but not necessarily unfair or even the wrong decision necessarily. (there are cases where yeah, I'd agree that you get a sketchy result, but I wouldn't apply that to a general case even when you get the three judge total scores disagreeing with the result)

Yes, the ESS we use is the system from Swiss Timing, which is just the distributor of the software. I believe it's actually written by some small company in Germany. Most of the Swiss Timing stuff is high end... wait for it... timing devices. Like you said, for swimming and the like, and despite the fly by night nature of the ESS, I'm not sure Swiss Timing as a company warrants being painted with the same brush here. The ESS is a small niche thing which isn't even listed on the Swiss Timing website or catalog. The sales guy for North America knows it exists but it's definitely not a big deal item to them.

I think it would be hard for most to ignore the notion, but the system is still a very solid step in the right direction, especially in regards to fairness and accountability on judges. When it all comes down to it it's the JUDGES who need to recognize what they are looking at and scoring.

Granted different angles of view could come into account and the force if the blow being a factor as well (a strong stiff jab vs a measuring one that connects but with no real force). I guess I can look up on the site and see if it is available.
