Eastman's Trainer

Post by steve689 »

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this or whether i missed it but i noticed from a distance that McCracken didn't seem to be in Eastman's corner on Saturday night, i forgot about it until reading tonights local paper where they quote Eastman's "trainer" Kofi Spencer. Who is Spencer and what happened to warrant a change?

Kofi is Winston Spencer, a who was a good domestic lightweight in the 8os. He used to train Eastman's brother Gilbert. Strange match for Hennessy and Eastman to take at this stage of his career.

Wonder what hennessy thought that there was no McCracken there as he is house trainer

I thought i might have missed something but it appears no one is sure of the training situation, Eastman needs someone who can put a firework up his arse every so often.

Trouble is, I don't think he'd listen. In fact, I get the feeling that if someone started shouting and screaming at him, he'd fornicate the guy off. I always get the impression with Eastman that he does things his way, and that he feels he's right to do so.

McCracken has always seemed a good trainer to me, calm and ready with the right advice between rounds. But Eastman clearly doesn't listen at times (wasn't McCracken practically begging him to show some urgency against Hopkins? I know I was), so it wouldn't surprise me if McCracken has said 'fornicate it', and left Howard to his own devices. I can certainly see McCracken doing that with Froch before long, if Carl doesn't get his left hand up and stop pretending to be Roy Jones.

Possibly the biggest fraud in Boxing - next to Mick Hennessey of course.
In what way is Hennessey a fraud?
From a fans point of view i like the shows he puts together, maybe you know something i don't.

I'm not having a go at you, just wondering

Howard doesn't like to be shouted at. Remember the Joppy? Told his cornerman to stop shouting at him.

Yeah must admit i was thinking whats Dean Powell doing with Khan, he wasn't mentioned by Khan or any of his people in the build up to the fight.
Afterwards he wouldn't let go of Khan , always had his arm round him and getting plenty of the photographers to take the picks of him with Khan.

typical.....there are countless times when i see Dean in someones corner and i think to myself, what exactly does he do....... he is a match maker at best for most of the fighters he works the corner......no training input whats so ever

Dean Powell was in the corner for Khan because himself and Warren don't think Oliver Harrison has enough experience to cope on his own.

Amusingly, Dean Powell is egotistical enough to read the websites but of course has no answers to any criticism.......
