Why no Holmes Vs Cooney rematch?

What were the reasons for there never being a Holmes vs Cooney rematch?

It was a massive money fight and I am sure Holmes would have got more money fighting Cooney again than some of his later defences.

Was it due to Cooneys depression and injuries after the Holmes loss? Or did Holmes feel there was nothing else for him to prove?

Was there ever serious talk of a Holmes vs Cooney rematch?

After the Holmes fight people waited for Cooney to return to the ring and the idea was he'd win a few bouts and then eventually go for a rematch after perhaps picking up the WBA title etc. Well people waited and waited and he (Cooney) didn't show for about two years I think. I think Cooney had a fight or two then dissapeared again for a few years before coming back against Spinks.
Really Cooney was ruined by the Holmes defeat and went into a spiral of depression and I think drink and drugs. I think he wasn't the most confident of people and this was exascerbated by his managers careful handling of him which raised questions over whether he could really fights and after he lost to Holmes his confidence was just shattered.
Shame, but I hear he is doing well these days I think and is involved with exboxers.
On the other hand Holmes was treated really badly in the run up to the fight by the media etc and was made to feel like the challenger and I think he has always been a bit bitter about this ever since.

Thats good to see... British boxers could do with a simular scheme over here I think.

I've been saying the same thing for years, plus proper medical insurance, education and coucelling for post ring life, retirement funds etc etc.

What ever happened to the PBA? Wasn't Mickey Cantwell involved in that?

I think so but you never seem to hear much about the PBA... its certainly not as high profile as the exboxers organisations in America.
Isn't Alex Ramos involved in a simular organisation or is it the same one?....
