Re: Sparring Gloves
I'm looking to get a new pair myself, and have been researching reviews on-line. Rival seem to get a very positive thumbs-up.

Re: Sparring Gloves
Do you use your sparring gloves on the bag?
Re: Sparring Gloves
I was looking at these online but unfortunately they didn't stock them where I was buying from and I wanted to try them on first. I went with some Rival ones in the end. They were a bit pricey but they feel great and definitely let you close you fist better than any of the others I tried.cletomex wrote:i use everlast protex2 leather 16 oz. i like them a lot

I usually use mitts on the bags.King Tubby wrote:Do you use your sparring gloves on the bag?

I use 16oz ERGO gloves for everything, bags, pads, sparring. I do it for fitness so I'm not too bothered if they are the 'proper' gloves for the type of workout.

I don't know what's up with Everlast lately. Pretty much everything on their site is sold out and nothing can be found on other sites either. fuckin ridiculous.J-C wrote:I was looking at these online but unfortunately they didn't stock them where I was buying from and I wanted to try them on first. Re: Sparring Gloves
i use protex2 16 oz for sparring and protex2 12 oz for bags and mitts. and just hand wraps for speed bag.
i've been using Maxi Pads for my knuckle guards under the hand wraps, works like a charm. Saw it on HBO 24/7 in Mosley's camp. They last a good 5-6 workouts and are cheap as shit, a lot cheaper than gauze. Those leather knuckle guards are shit and awkward and the stiff leather between the fingers feels like shit.

Re: Sparring Gloves
Shouldn't you have more protection for your hands than you get from mitts? (not being a smartarse), just remember being told that you'll hit a bag more than a sparring partner so need more padding. I only do it for keep fit, so don't really know.J-C wrote:I usually use mitts on the bags.King Tubby wrote:Do you use your sparring gloves on the bag?
Re: Sparring Gloves
I think a lighter pair of gloves for bags and pads will be my next purchase, but so far I have always wrapped my hands properly and its felt fine. Although to be fair they are quite chunky mitts, I just like not having the padding around the thumb you have with gloves.King Tubby wrote:Shouldn't you have more protection for your hands than you get from mitts? Re: Sparring Gloves
I've been using Cleto Reyes gold (16's) for the last nine months, but after getting hit by PUNCH AAA Armadillos http://www.punchequipment.com/armadillo ... p-102.html , i was impressed. I like their compact design, more the size of tens instead of sixteens, and they hurt me, yet protected my sparing partner's hands very well, I'll be getting some of these or looking at the same brand's 'Black Diamond' gloves. Will probably spring for the Armadillos though.

Twins, Windy, Winning, and of course Cleto Reyes - all good brands IMO and better than Everlast or Ringside. I also like Lonsdale gear.
Re: Sparring Gloves
just a few small tips.1st thing you need to understand is that the sole purpuse of the glove is to protect the fighters hands,to often people use 16 oz gloves in preperation for a fight, they do create a false indication on where you are defencevly .spar in the size glove you would fight in (usualy 10 oz) and wear other protective gear when needed, head gear should always be used to avoid cuts and spend the extra time wrapping your hands.you could also think about wearing a body shield as rib injurys can also cost you alot of lost training time.smaller gloves and mitts are great for the bag and focus pads as they give you a better indication on the power of your punches and build confidence, one last thing never use your sparring gloves on the bag,the bag will break down the padding in the gloves within a couple of weeks.boxing is a poor mans game all you need now are two good hands and a heart.
Re: Sparring Gloves
I use Cleto Reyes 8oz gloves for the bags / pads and use 12oz grants whenever i feel like i might have niggles on my hands.
The sparring gloves i use are 16oz cleto reyes and although i havent done a lot of sparring recently im not too keen on them. The smaller reyes gloves are unbeatable but im not too keen on these bigger ones to be honest.
As for the dude buying gloves in particular just to hurt sparring partners.
The reyes gloves are likely not to be very generous on the opponent if you land cleanly either but i cant say many people are likely to be impressed with your criteria for choosing gloves.
