Mayweather v Wright
Just read on BBC SPort that Mayweather v Wright is in the pipeline for November.
Peoples thoughts on this one?
Peoples thoughts on this one?
yeah winky is far too big.
what is mayweather doing?
does this guy ever hang around to clear up a division before moving up weights?
i mean surely he cant be struggling at light welter after 3 fights, i have no problem with people moving upwhen they need to but this senseless weight hopping is pathetic and not good for the sport.
if it comes off i hope winky takes him apart. moving up to light middle i take it.....?

Mayweather sounds like he thinks hes that good, that he can move all the way up to Middleweight. Too much for him.

It has the makings of a great technical boxing match, but my thoughts are the same as yours J. Winky has been talking of a move up to middleweight so the size issue has to be the main one.
Surely a Hatton/Mayweather fight would be a massive money maker for both at 140 before PBF moves on.....again!!
At this rate he will be fighting Ruiz within a couple of years. And he would probably win that too!!!

Actually the talk is that they will fight at light middle (154 lbs). I know its not that big of a difference to Winky, but it is to Floyd.
I don't understand this either. I would totally back Floyd up in this if he has already beaten the "real" contenders at his current weight. But Ricky Hatton is sitting right there and would be a much better fight IMO. It would be a world wide attraction. Much more so than Winky v Mayweather.
I have a feeling PBF's head is getting too big for his body.

I'm not sure why you guys are bitching... As #1, these matchups used to happen all the time in olden days. And #2, if Winky comes in at 154/155, Mayweather would probably come in around 148/149. Which means he could easily drop down to welter.
For all those who complain about too many weight classes, I'm not sure what your problem is here.

Have you actually read the two threads you posted this on? I really don't see all that much bitching that the fight could happen. Actually people are more saying they think it is a bad decision for Mayweather to make. Honestly I don't see too many people (on either board) are saying they shouldn't fight because of the "jumping of weights".Tantum wrote:I'm not sure why you guys are bitching... Too much is made of weight these days. As long as Winky wasn't coming in weighing in excess of the middle limit on the night of the fight, I think it would be ok.Tantum wrote:I'm not sure why you guys are bitching... I think Mayweather would struggle to match him for power, but he's a hell of a lot quicker, and a lot more mobile.
as said here, these sorts of fights used to be commonplace, but that was with same day weighins, which makes a big difference. It would be unfair if Mayweather enters for a LM fight at 148, and Winky comes in on the night at 165, which is quite possible.
What I'm trying to say is... These guys think they're getting robbed out of good fights, yet they're the same ones who think there should be less weight classes, and that having less weight classes would make more good fights.
Why are they complaining about the prospect of this fight, saying he should stay at 140, or saying it's too much weight difference, if they want less weight divisions?

Team Hatton told Arrum they'll fight Cotto but not Mayweather in 2006 and Cotto won't fight either anytime soon. Mayweather wants big fights, is he supposed to wait for them to grow balls for 2years?J wrote:![]()
it just irriatates me when there are great match ups at his present domestic weight in Cotto and Hatton he decides to move up 2 or 3 bloody weight divs.
its madness. and cheating the fans out of some good fights at his natural weight.
He should fight Judah instead, then clean out 147, he has a chance against Winky because hes so much faster.

floyd is about his fistic legacy at this point & a fight with the guy hopkins & taylor want NO PART OF is a WIN/WIN SITUATION FOR PBF...steve689 wrote:I think Mayweather should stick at Light Welterweight and try and tempt Hatton and Cotto first, i prefer fighters to stay and try and clear up a weight rather than all this incessant weight jumping.
even if he loses, it almost wont even be considered a genuine loss, just cause it was such a BOLD, RISKY MOVE!!! AND IF HE MAKES IT CLOSE HE WONT EVEN LOSE HIS CURRENT P4P CROWN since he's facing a MUCH BIGGER MAN!!!

I'm not complaining about too many weight divisions, I'd just like to see if the guy can clean up in his current weight division before moving on. There are some great matches to be made at 140 and if money is the motivation, which it obviously is for all fighters, why wouldnt PBF take on Hatton and/or Cotto before taking on Wright, who doesnt bring as much to the table in financial terms? Why are they complaining about the prospect of this fight, saying he should stay at 140, or saying it's too much weight difference, if they want less weight divisions?
This one is purely ego!!!!
give the guy a break. As its been said, hatton (his promoter mainly) have openly stated that they dont want mayweather this year. Big bobby Arum aint giving up cotto to mayweather when hes grooming into a new star.
Don king wants options on Mayweather if he fights judah. Magarito is a big risk with little reward(wbo - although it would be a huge fans fight), mosely turned him down. Oscar aint in shape.
Mayweather wants a big ppv partner to dance with in november but theres none there, so the next best thing is winkly wright at 154, on a role and coming of a big win.
Dont hate the player hate the game.

I think Mayweather is looking at Wright and see's a beatable fighter for his style, Wright isn't the biggest puncher in the world, therefore its less of a risk for Mayweather.
As has been said years ago fighters would quite reguarly jump weights to challange the best, as much as i want to see Mayweather fight the Hattons and Cotto's of the world , i'd pay to watch this one as well.
Its not as if he's jumping a couple of divisions to face some low ranked Fighter.
