Of all of the opponents in this list that I could think that beat the great Muhammad Ali in his prime would be the greats Jack Johnson and Evander Holyfield...The rest? Ali beats them every day and twice on Sunday.

Ali would decision Lewis, Dempsey, Johnson, Klitschko, Marciano & Holyfield.

He would stop Tyson.

He would be stopped by Louis.

Louis COULD of course manage that outcome.....I for one would be happy to cover your money on that bet.

What the fvck do you know about Boxing?

I wouldnt be betting on that fight, but even if I was, Id more than make it back when you bet on someone like Miguel Cotto or Ricky Hatton to beat Aaron Pryor.

Well since your arrival, I'm constantly reminded of my limitations in this area. What I appreciate the most about you is your ability to remind me of my humble nature and put me in touch with a sense of honest humility.

Oh...and the bet i spoke of was purely one of a hypothetical nature. As Louis is deceased, and Ali has retired. However I'd be willing to be contrary and give fair odds that Cotto Or Ricky could take old man Pryor to the woodshed pretty easily.

Lennox Lewis - I can't really see a way for Lennox to win this one. Emmanuel Steward himself said that if Lewis fought Ali, it would be a battle of the jabs and Ali had more trouble with jabbers and boxers than he did with guys who came straight at him. Lewis could hurt Ali, but I can't see him hurting him consistently enough to stop him. A post Manilla Ali, I think Lewis would beat, before then it's Ali every time. Ali by a wide decision.
Jack Dempsey - Ali UD
Joe Louis - Could go either way, but I favour an competitive UD to Ali.
Jack Johnson - Ugly fight, Ali in a competitive decision.
Wlad Klitschko - Wlad's jab would trouble Ali, but ultimately Ali has too much and would take a wide decision.
Mike Tyson - Tyson has a real chance for an early to mid rounds KO, but odds are Ali survives the early onslaught, breaks Tyson's mind and will and stops him sometimes after the 8th round.
Rocky Marciano - Poses some problems for Ali and rocks him at a few times, wins a few rounds, but is ultimately stopped on cuts/swelling late in the fight.
Evander Holyfield - Evander would give it a red hot go, as he always did, but I don't see how so many people have this as a close fight. Ali would be landing on Holyfield all night and Holyfield would never be able to put Ali away. Again, if we're talking a post Manilla Ali, then a prime Evander takes it. Prime for prime it's no contest. Ali via a lopsided decision.

At least he's stopped creating those lame threads in here now, Buzz.

He still starts a few in the Other Sports section; the last one I saw was something about naming your favourite posters. It turned out better than I could have imagined. He named about 10 other dullards in sickening man-love prose; the punch line was not a single one of them bothered to name him. Awesome!

You really think Holyfield would need scraping off the canvas with Ali?

Are you saying Marciano gets the decision over Ali?

Uh, no.

He might win 4 rounds out of 15 if it went that far.

Yes, that's what I'm saying, in my entirely subjective personal opinion.
Yancey hates Marciano. He thinks by tearing down Marciano, he somehow builds up Frazier . . .

You are totally full of crap.

It is really not worth the effort responding to someone like you, but I will in order to set the record straight.

I don't hate Marciano. Never have.

You periodically bring up this ridiculous, shallow mantra that I'm tearing down Marciano to build up Frazier.

That has nothing to do with it. Frazier stands or falls on his own.

Do I sincerely feel Marciano is overrated and would have had lots of trouble with quite a few of the '60s and later heavyweights?

Without question.

Ali would have embarrassed Rocky.

I'm reluctant to comment here, but I have sort of echoed Yancey's thoughts on this on occasion. Not trying to be provocative but I see Frazier as a bit more rugged and powerful version of Marciano. Better in almost every way. Ok, maybe not the right hand.

Frazier DID beat Ali, I don't think Rocky would have had a good a chance of accomplishing that. I also think that Frazier may be the only fighter who could have gotten that job done. (discounting that any fighter can have a lucky KO....but Frazier just plain gave Ali a beating) Though I honestly think I'd rather have been Ali after the fight, because Ali gave Frazier perhaps an even bigger beating...but based on points...I gave that fight to Frazier.

So using Marciano as a bench mark to make a case that Frazier is pretty remarkable, seems ok to me.
