greaves v al hamidi

Post by johnnygreaves »

Well lads, I got beaten by a real slippery sod who just wouldn't fight. I really had a go & came forward from first bell to last . He really is good at what he does & I got beaten by a quality journeyman. I thought he would trade more with me . What could I do?

Get Carl to put you in with Nathan McIntosh , id love to see him have to face you , youd give him a tough workout and i know the Nottingham boxrec posters will all be out in force and would like to see you in action :TU:

Yes mate , only a point in it. Can't actually remember getting hit much , but I lost so I must have, believe me, I really walked forward & tried to make the fight , I was beaten by a clever fighter who really is hard to hit. Me being a journeyman thought he would have wanted to have a go with me but I can see how he upsets the prospects at times. I'm heartbroken

Scores were 58 - 57. You shouldn't be hard on yourself johnny you boxed well bruv, al Hamidi is a good good opponent, as you are, if you box like that for the next 30 you'll piss to the hundred!! Didn't really take too many, moved well, fitness good, you have no reason to be down on yourself. Chin up (down) & on to the next one. Love ya brother :bag:

He's an underrated chap, Johnny.

Slippery is a good word.

Plus, you know you're not used to being on the front foot, be honest  :TU:

No Ian, you 100% correct . For a long while now , I've been a safety first fighter. It really was odd for me . Going on the front foot, looking to take it too him. If all goes to plan, I only have 30 bouts left & I'll be looking to have a good go a lot more often. I boxed pretty well last night & showed I'm no mug.

By the time you reach the 100 Johnny, how many do you expect to have won?
Do professional tennis players or football teams get praised for losing 67 times out of 70 matches?
Maybe if we went on to the snooker forum we'd get a so-called professional with a 4% win ratio talking about themselves?
And better still, claiming to be "heartbroken" after the 67th loss!
It takes some neck to do that, instead of hiding out of embarrasment or - perish the thought - actually trying to win and not con the fans who pay your wages to see last the distance but, inevitably, lose. This is exactly what is wrong with our sport.

-----------------

PS: I know I'm going to get slated here, but it needs to be said. Our sport is so rotten that many fans see nothing wrong with a man who is paid to lose coming on and revelling in it. Many even big him up for it!
Anyone who comes on praising this professional loser has no right to criticise mismatches, ever.

Heartbroken because I assume it was a battle of the Journeymen, which Johnny wants to be the best of. Thats probably, and i'm just speculating, why he felt this one more than most.

It's also not exactly whats wrong with our sport. There are many bigger issues in boxing than journeymen - many do our sport, and prospects, a credit.

Sorry mate I've let you down, I know you were after an argument. :TU:

This is the second time you've dug me out plank. I'm heart broken because I wad in a winable fight against another journeyman with a week or so,s notice. My last fight, I got a call 11 o'clock Friday nite, was on a first train to Scotland with 5 half hour journey with only an hour spare when I arrived. His opponent pulled out & the tits that bought tickets to see him would have lost out. I put up a good fight. Is that a rip off you prick? By the way the tits in that was a predictive text error. Your a tit & that was meant

All you do with comments like this is show that you know sod all about boxing , without people like johnny many shows would gt cancelled , and without people like him debutants and novices would have to be thrown in at the deep end meaning a loss could cause them to quit the sport thinking they werent good enough when theyve possibly got the potential to be a world champion .

Your idealistic view on the sport is so far fetched its unreal

I was gutted to see that you lost Johnny, but keep your head up and ignore Apollo Creed who clearly knows nothing about the fight game.
We need more guys like you Johnny, without the likes of you, Peter Buckley, Paul Bonson etc, we'd struggle.

This is a professional sportsman who has lost 67 times from 70.
Only in boxing would this not only be tolerated, but glorified.
Johnny, call me all the names you want, no problem.
Boxing is rotten to the core, and "professionals" who get paid to lose are a symptom of that. I can tolerate it, barely, but I can't tolerate professional losers bragging about it/pretending to be anything more than they are ie. losers.

Actually, there are tennis pros on the circuit who lose in the first round at most tournaments and there are pro golfers who fail to ever make the cut but just make up numbers, collect their cheques and fly off to the next tournament. No different to what JG does, trust me.
The reason that we never write about them or talk about them is because they are anonymous.
Nobody on here celebrates JG losing, we admire him for his honesty and bravery.

Adios.

Ok mate, sorry for the name calling, I'm a better man than that. Please tell me where I have ever bragged & bigged myself up. Most of the lads I face are too young,Sharp & well schooled , I most often only get v short notice & long travel in peoples back yards. I'm no champ but. I provide an education & rounds for boys that need it to move on to bigger things . No winning boy will face each other without titled or big money on the line . So do they stagnate in the gym waiting for fights that never come or face the likes of me to keep busy . I love my job & the fact I'm providing for my family. Boxing does have its probs but I'm not one of em.

sorry bour big man but your way off the mark, pro tennos players would lose ranking points and drop off main tour and same with golf, and those guys all would then have to qualify for events on the bigger tours!
appolo is right in a way but i do understand the need for journey men in our game especially with late calls etc.some of the match ups are ridiculous!

Nice one johnny, I`ve said it before journeymen are needed in our sport, they show a lot of the prospects a few tricks, and also keep some of the shows from folding by taking short notice fights, good luck for the future :TU:
