The biography for the boxer Ed Dunkhorst, 'famous' for being one of the heaviest boxers ever, mentions that he died of kidney failure. However I found a site which lists a newspaper report for October 26th 1915 giving his cause of death as a fight (presumably a street or bar fight rather than a boxing match):
