I think it was a fair call by Merchant, whereas Floyd seems too used to having flunkies praise his every move, laugh at his unfunny jokes and generally massage his ego and fragile self-confidence/insecurity.
Ortiz is a bit of a dick though, he's got a pretty severe personality disorder. To me it seems that he can't decide whether to be like DLH, with the forced smile and rehearsed lines, or a Vargas-type character that shoots from the hip and is easily riled. There's definitely more of the Vargas in him, but I think that unlike Vargas, Victor(ia) doesn't really want to be a fighter, and has kinda stumbled on boxing as something that he's good at and can make a living from.
Smiling after an embarrassing KO loss, the ''I'm a good looking boy and don't deserve to get beat up like this'' quote after Maidana.... I can't see him boxing on too long.
As Kellerman said after the Maidana fight, we saw a moment in a young fighter's career that may define his career - and so it has proven. He will always be remembered for his quitting and mentally giving out - the fall to the canvas against Maidana, the headbutt on Floyd. Can't hide from who you are in that ring.
It's a troubling theme with some of these American kids, getting the star treatment on HBO having done nothing. I mean.... a loss to Maidana, draw with Peterson, an up and downer against overrated hypejob Berto - then the fight with Floyd.....
We sometimes moan about our scene for various things but we seldom see someone so blatantly flawed earning megabucks having done nothing.

Felt the same way (as you in your last paragraph) after watching the fight.LeedsLad wrote:I think it was a fair call by Merchant, whereas Floyd seems too used to having flunkies praise his every move, laugh at his unfunny jokes and generally massage his ego and fragile self-confidence/insecurity.

Hagler a bitter, sullen whinge, etc., etc.Final round wrote:King Geedorah wrote: Nowt wrong with wearing glasses, if you had yours on you’d have noticed that at no point do I say, ‘Floyd came across well’. I said that I preferred him to Ortiz and pointed out that Merchant has previous form when it comes to fighters he doesn’t care for.
Floyd's a prick, but at least he is openly a prick so you know where you stand with him.Fair enough although personally in life I prefer it if someone at least makes a bit of a effort to to be fairly normal even if they are not being quite true to themselves rather than embracing their innermost twat completely.
Floyd’s job is to win fights, not net himself a Noble Peace Prize for services to acting splendidly.
One good thing, May’s being painted as a cheat or unsportsmanlike, this may help him get Manny as we know Pac-Man is very charitable when it comes to giving cheats a crack at his legacy. The way he ushered the misunderstood victim of circumstance Antonio Margarito back into the sport brought a tear to my eye, it really did.
Manny does seem to let things go he was willing to accept an apology over the PED allegations by Floyd Inc and forgivingly invited Tony to partake in a orbital shattering payday which was nice of him.
An Ali 24/7 would have been awesome imo

Re: Larry Merchant I Love you
Larry lost the moral high ground. He should have just walked away, laughed at Mayweather and left the audience knowing who the total dick is in the situation.
