this isnt village cricket these guys are supposed professionals.

im disgusted Vaughan aint worth his place, Trescothick STILL has no foot movement, strauss has been worked out.

bet they wish the played thorpe now.

Jesus, England are 25-5 off 19 overs - thats a dismal run rate.

Australia scored their 190 in 40 overs.

im sure i read that.

the thing thats annoying me most is that Batting is looking so much easier now, all the openers had to do was stay in for 10-15 overs to protexct our middle order.

they didnt through a mixture of excellent bolwing by Mcgrath an piss poor technique, its not fornicating good enough.

The run rate doesnt matter but as things are going we'll be all out for a shit score so they have to score some runs!

Pietersen is putting the top order to shame, there were question marks about his technique but he is playing McGrath quite well. (cue wicket)

take your point mate but you cant just go out there and slog it vs the new ball.

need to show some bollox here and grind it out for a few overs take advantage of the sun and old ball once you are in.

as an opener i never play an aggressive shot for the first ten overs i batted, play yourself in, work out the pitch an the bowling and see off the new ball.

thats your job as an opener, one that Trescothick seems to shirk.

But we've had no opener like that since Athers. Vaughan is perhaps as close. Trsco's a stroke player of real talent. The problem with him and Vaughan is that they look like Tim Henman.

I know they need t grind it out but they've let a lot of balls go that are scoring deliveries. You have to find a happy medium between safety and scoring.

They gotta be positive. Its Trescothick imo who keeps digging these holes for England. He kept doing it in the One Dayers. He gets bogged down for ages instead of even trying to work singles. The tone is set and he ends up getting out in his usual way and his team are in a hole. McGrath is a wonderful bowler but the fact of the matter is he is predictable. Everyone who's ever got to him has improvised and attacked him. You can just let him bowl his line like England done today. Vaughn improvised in the last tour and took the attack to him by pulling him off his length. Too much respect.

At least they're within 100 runs. Have to hope to do a similar job to the oz batsmen as they did today and then block their own innings out.

to be fair to flintoff and vaughan they did get deliveries that jkept low, my problem is with Trescothick, he has NO application at all, he just wafts at anything, he is like Chris gayle but not as good. Just stand and deliver, now thats fine in one day but not at test level, you need someone who is gonna se the swinging new ball off.

Sorry if i appeared a bit harsh yesterday but i was gutted after such a good bowling performance that we collapsed and handed the initiative back to the Aussies with a numbing inevitability.

I hate Mcgrath too but the biggest compliment i can give him is if he was English I'd worship him

Yes, typical England you get your hopes up and then they are dashed. Great display of bowling for McGrath, he is so accurate.

Trouble with England is if we got another Boycott or Tavare to open they just get slated by the press (typical of the press in this country) about being too negative even though it's a five day test, yesterdays game was more of a one-day game.

We need some stiff upper lips at the top of the order. I've never liked Trescothick, he's always been a slogger. Sure if he gets in, its fine, but bat under pressure for 4 or 5 sessions. Nah.

Vaughan should be opening with Strauss, followed by Butcher at 3, ok he's injured and hes far from perfect, this Pieterson character, even though he's about as English as Chicken Madras and Thorpey at five. Flint six, the Jones usurpa at 7, Giles should be sent to away and told to forget about it, and the bowling quartet I'd leave unchanged and perhaps try and find a spinner who knows the tune to 'I'll be around'.

Vaughans wasnt that low it hit the top of off stump. The problem is he was playing off his backfoot when he should be getting his front foot forward and playing positive.

Trescothick should be dropped he doesnt have what it take against the Aussie - he's way too static.
