When a fighter has a bad fight he blames the Trainer!

Post by Cotto16 »

It seems to be the new trend in britian tony bellew was close to geting knocked out by journeymen turned fringe contender oliv mckemzie so he blamed arnie, before that bad night he use to say the sun shined out of arnie's ass, he then leaves arnie and wins a boring fight over olive and looked like a scared rabbit when he got hit! at least under arnie he was scoreing knockouts! now john murray has followed the trend leaving joe, because he blames joe for forgeting to use the jab and not moveing his head. Its a joke if you look backl at alot of the old school fighters they had the same trainer there whole carrer if they had a bad nite they tuck it on the chin and moved on to the next fight, they were not swapping trainer every 2 years

it's the same with football everyone blames the manager but it's the players that are the ones not getting the results, i've always said that if your not happy about something in training then it needs sorting straight away not after the fight

somtimes camps can become mundane & mentally draining a change is as good as a rest in alot of way's.

it's when a fighter repeatedly changes like macklin & arthur you know who the problem is.

You also need to bear in mind that some of the time it will be a self-defence mechanism. We all know how important part of the game mentality is, and to lose confidence in your own ability can be career-ending. Therefore you easily see why in certain circumstances it makes sense for the fighter to use 'transference' as a way of coming to terms with the defeat without damaging their psychological make-up i.e. 'I only lost to fighter a because of trainer y; I know I can beat him if I'm prepared better'; as opposed to 'I lost to fighter a because I am not as good as him and never will be'.

Its not always the trainer gets blamed. when i first lost i knew why and knew it wasn't my trainers fault. The second time however is a little different.

Your bang out of line saying that!! :shame:

I never blamed Arnie once for anything and have gone on record numeros times saying that people who blame coaches for a loss in my opinion cowards! Dont bring my name into this argument! I've never disrespected Arnie and I stated that I left for travelling reasons! The issues will stay between me and him as to why I left!

Sometimes it's promoters and managers messing people around then the boxers aren't focused

He clearly is Coco, but also clearly wants to keep the real reason quiet. Hate to seize on this, but I remember getting a load of abuse on here when I said the travelling reason just didn't stand up to scrutiny. The truth willl out and all that....

I suppose actions speak louder than words. But Tony has every right to keep things to himself, i'm not a fan of people who air their dirty laundry in public.
Perhaps it is not a good idea to hint about other stuff if you want to keep things private though.

Yep. In many cases fighters perform poorly due to their own faults that can not be corrected by any amount of training with any trainer.

Yep, that sums up my sentiment. My whole point at the time was he has every right to keep it private, but by coming on a public forum and giving a reason that just didn't ring true he was insulting people's intelligence - would have been far better off staying quiet. However, understand his reasoning and don't doubt for a second his actions were well intended.

I agree with your first point.

However, Tony was almost evangelical about the prowess of Arnie as a trainer for years, and told anybody who would listen and therefore people were interested in the reasons behind his decision to change trainer.

Then when it goes wrong he wants to avoid the issue. Rather than say he left after it it took him 4 years to realise that Manchester was 30 miles away from Liverpool, he could have just said that he wanted a change of approch and wished Arnie well for the future. Most people would have accepted this.

Hi mate, no drama, but it's actually Coco you've quoted there, not me, so I'd appreciate it if you edit accordingly. For what it's worth I agree with you :TU:
