Well thats one of Bombers predictions with his bubble burst, how long till Gavin&Price fall the same way?
bellew also predicted cox would go all the way.
bellew will predict that anyone from liverpool will win the fight so dont take his predictions too seriously
I agree my predictions have been off, I also agree that my heart rules my head but no one seen that coming from Selby! As for Frankie, he'll go as far as he wants to go and knowing him as well as I do I see that being the top, pricey is a top level athlete let alone a top heavyweight.. Ok Coxy has had a bad fight, doesn't make him a bad fighter, he'll come good the more he knows about his opponent IMO..
I don't just pick out Liverpool fighters at all, I like Barker, Murray and many other fighters, Scott Quigg is a massive talent who is going far, I also love watching John Simpson and predicted Ricky Burns would beat Martinez! Everyone forgot that prediction Eh!
Like I always say, it's all about opinions and were all entitled to one regardless, even if mine is way off sometimes.. Lol

Re: Stephen Smith v Lee Selby
Quite a few people who have seen Selb before Saturday said he could beat Swifty... To those who've seen him it wasn't a massive surprise and it just goes to show that you don't need to be with a big promoter and trainer to win titles. So a lot of credit goes to Chris and Jamie Sanigar, George and Dragon Promotions and of course Selby's trainer, Tony Borg and the guys at St Joes.
Even though the finish exceeded my imagination, I wasn't surprised because Selby is huge for a feather. His record might not have many ko's but he's had to be matched against lightweights and light-welterweights to get fights and he can't go for ko's because if he got them it would be even harder to get fights. It's no fluke that his 3 fights against other feather's have all been ko wins. If Saturday would have gone to points we know the risks.
I've said for a long time now that he can give any domestic feather a hard fight and the truth is that I don't think Saturday was near his limits. He can be a lot more elusive and that side will shock people in the future too. I'd love to see him in with experienced domestic guys like Martin Lindsay or John Simpson or have a Welsh derby against Ricky Owen or even Jamie Arthur if he would come back. It may be a tad too soon for Joe Murray or Ryan Walsh but they would be good fights too.

Worst weekend of sport I've witnessed. Things just got worse and worse. First Swifty, then Liverpool, then the mancs. Thats funny!
No-one has mentioned that Selby also boxed out of character but he won! As for Selby being 'classless' on the point of knockdown - Smith was raising his arms at the end of every round to influence judges and an already partisan crowd. One more thing - Selby is going to be no walkover for Simpson like Nelson is chirping away on another forum - a fact!
Re: Stephen Smith v Lee Selby
According to another forum, Selby vs Simpson is on for the 18th Nov
Re: Stephen Smith v Lee Selby
I'll say this now, that Selby is a match for anyone in Europe, his style could see him do well on the world scene too! He can bang and moves well while also being quite awkward in my opinion! Good luck to the kid...

Re: Stephen Smith v Lee Selby
pretty shocked with smiths performance.i wasnt shocked he got flattened because he was getting hit with telegraphed punches & it was only a matter of time even tho he wasnt getting rattled but getting hit far too cleanly & flush.
personally i think he has looked really poor since leaving the vaughns. his last simpson fight he was very average & in this fight he just bulled the lad around like a thrustrated boxer with no snap.i think there must be an issue with his training or weight despite paul looking really good & healthy at 12st...horses 4 courses i suppose.
well done selby he looked reem.

Eh ? ..... The lad has only had 11 fights and before Smith who had he beat ?
I admit this is the first I have seen of Selby, and he looked rangey and awkward but was just looking for a single big shot (and for some reason Smith allowed him to take pot shots all fight).
He is probably British class, but to say European never mind World class is premature to say the least.
At least he seems to have sensible management behind him. They basically said on TV that he was a young lad who needs a lot more experience. Hopefully we will see him in a few decent domestic fights before / if he moves up a level.

Re: Stephen Smith v Lee Selby
Selby's win over James Ancliff was one that made a lot of people who know the local Boxing circuits take note, Ancliff is a hard man and before his fight with Selby took Joe Murray 12 rounds and Murray didnt look like stopping him. Selby stopped him in six rounds and we are seeing a lot of guys coming from small shows and really improving now.bripez wrote:Eh ? ..... The guy is a rough diamond which is what I think Tony is talking about, he's not world or European class at the moment, but the tools are there. His punching power is clearly much improved at featherweight, he's tricky, and to be fair his fitness looked good against Swifty, although the main question mark has to be how would he fair over a full 12 rounds.

Ancliffs a hard guy but he's little more than a journeyman now. Selby has taken the step up and proven himself which is good to see, his next fight against Simpson should determine how good he could be i think.iwz678 wrote:Selby's win over James Ancliff was one that made a lot of people who know the local Boxing circuits take note, Ancliff is a hard man and before his fight with Selby took Joe Murray 12 rounds and Murray didnt look like stopping him. Very sensible post, Your spot on, these guys are coming in under the radar and no one is seeing them coming, They fight at higher weights to get matched and then fight at there proper weights when it comes to titles and this is what is misleading to the fighters... They see very few stoppages and poor opponents all be it at higher weights and just think he's not much, I do not pay much attention to records anymore cos tehy dont tell you the truth imo, I think you need to sit down and really study opponents rather than look at there record! I think Selby will go far and I also believe Stephen will learn from his mistakes.. I hope both go on to bigger things as both look better than domestic level imo..
