Off topic - 8 year olds cage fighting
Seen this on tv and to be honest was not shocked as ppl have been letting kids as young as 5 do full contact kick boxing fights.
Re: Off topic - 8 year olds cage fighting
Tame compared to what the little buggers get up to nowadays, looting robbing little scrotes!

Indeed. Daily Mail have murdered the truth here and now everyone is getting onto it.Jeff Thomas wrote:It wasn't cage fighting- it was an exhibition of no contact submission wrestling! Bma are retards

I don't agree with kids of eight doing it though! But it's being blown out of proportion- stress on children's limbs whilst they are still growing is not a good idea
Re: Off topic - 8 year olds cage fighting
Kids should learn to fight.

Yes they should but they should also be taught moralsHorse wrote:Kids should learn to fight.

Are we talking about from the fighting or the training? Would there be enough strength in an 8yr old to apply enough stress to a limb?Jeff Thomas wrote:jBacca wrote:Indeed. Re: Off topic - 8 year olds cage fighting
It was non-contact submission fighting and whilst I agree it maybe isn't the best thing for an 8 year old to do, the ones moaning about it will be the same parents who let their children play Call of Duty on the X-Box for 8 hours a day! ![[icon_shame.gif] :shame:](./images/smilies/icon_shame.gif)
Re: Off topic - 8 year olds cage fighting
They have been talking about this on BBC news for the last 2 days and i have been surprised by the lack of over reaction. The public have all been pointing out that it is wrestling with no striking and is really no different to 8 year olds in judo tournaments.
The issue people have is that it was on an adult show with ring card girls and alcohol and a screaming audience as this bout had been added to a normal cagefighting card. So people didn't like the atmosphere the kids were subjected to which i agree with too.
If this had been done in a leisure centre on a Sunday afternoon with families watching i don't think the papers would have bothered trying to whip up a controversy.

Wrestling on a mat wouldn't have been so bad but sticking them in a cage surrounded by adults presents an awful image but eight is too young for a submission sport imo

Re: Off topic - 8 year olds cage fighting
I'd imagine so my 7 year old is unbelievably strong- there are many restrictions to weight bearing activity for youngsters and in essence to bring about a submission your exerting force on a limb in a uncomfortable way! Macho man would be the guy to ask I'd imagine but at the end of long bones there is something called an Epiphyseal plate which is what allows our bones to grow- Studies suggest that strain on this part of the bone can cause problems with growth!jBacca wrote:Are we talking about from the fighting or the training? Context is all.
There's nothing inherently wrong with kids this young doing martial arts of any kind so long as its well monitored and controlled, as this incident appeared to be. What is a little alarming is the set up - 2 kids in a cage, cheered on by a baying, alcohol fuelled crowd, surrounded by skimpily dressed luverlies. Put those 2 kids on a mat in a leisure centre at 2pm on a saturday and there's no overblown reaction by the ignorant media.

I agree. However, in my opinion it is not right to have young kids in that environment.earsjohn wrote:Context is all.

So for me, not so much the actual "fight" but the surroundings and how it was put together is a problem.
There is also the perception / reality (?) surrounding how these events are organised compared to martial arts such as judo and karate etc. Judo and Karate are well established sports with codes of conduct and gradings have medical support and supervision etc.
The impression (I may be wrong) from this type of "MMA" event, is that it is effectively a free for all put together by the local doorman type who runs a back street gym.
From what I see there are a lot of "MMA" gyms sprouting up, and every idiot and his dog now goes around calling themselves a "cage fighter" and there seems to be little regulation.
If an adult wants to do this of their own free will then that is fine, but I get a bit uneasy when a load of p!ssed up tattooed, shaven headed sted heads leave their pit bulls outside to go and watch a couple of kids fighting in a cage (ok, I might have gone over the top with the stereotype there .... and no, I don't know anybody who was actually at the event so this comment is made entirely without foundation ! ............).

I wrote this piece on the subject

Always remember; if the Daily Mail and the BMA are against something, it's probably worth doing.

There is a decent argument against the environment it was being held in, but the lads where only having a wrestle..
The Left wing looneys have obviously unchained themselves from that gypsy camp to slaver about this instead

Re: Off topic - 8 year olds cage fighting
This was not M.M.A it was wrestling which has been done since the dawn of time in Greece Rome and Sparta the children used to do it to build up strength I had no problem with the kids doing the wrestling but thought it looked a bit perve all the blokes watching to 8 year old grappling.

It was The Sun and the Daily Mail who were leading the charge- hardly left wing loonies, more just ban and control everything right wing loonies. Curiously the day after, the Mail ran a story with 'a health and safety gone mad' slant about how a school are making kids play football with a sponge ball to avoid injuries.Twinkle Toes wrote:There is a decent argument against the environment it was being held in, but the lads where only having a wrestle..

Re: Off topic - 8 year olds cage fighting
There was a similar documentary before about full contact thai boxing but that really was young kids. To be honest the only problem was that some of the parents were a little bit mental and shouted at their kids for loosing or crying and made it their life and all sorts.
Big pub blokes getting their 6 year old daughters into it and wishing it was them.
I dont think it does any harm if done properly starting from the age of 10 with headguards and responsible parents. There footage of the hatton doing full contact kick boxing at a young age, didnt do them any harm.
I know my boy will be boxing / kick boxing from a young age, i doubt i'll be signing him up for full contact though, not until he can decide what he wants for himself. Its a massive confidence boost and teaches disciplin, respect and dedication.

I don't understand why people still buy these newspapers, they always spout such utter guff.Flashing Blade wrote:It was The Sun and the Daily Mail who were leading the charge- hardly left wing loonies, more just ban and control everything right wing loonies. I thought it was a bit harsh when the kid pulled his arm off though
