Has it ruined their careers ???

Post by Foggy »

Just a topic on the contender, i see that we have another event where the contenders will face each other again as can be seen in the link below:-

http://www.boxrec.com/date_search.php?y ... m=09&dd=01

Now i really enjoyed the contender but surely these fellas need to go their own way and start to pave their own path, i mean people like Alfonso Gomez & Ishe Smith are talented poeple who could go on to higher things, it s a crying shame if you ask me :(

I don't think you can say it has ruined their careers, I don't think they are contractually obliged to continue to fight each other - they are chosing this option.

Personally, I think Gomez could probably make Light Welter and make some noise there, I mean with Maussa as champion many fighters way off the top ten must fancy themselves vs him. Ishe Smith I think could be a real contender (no pun) at Welter.

The fact that these two were fighting out their weight classes was stressed enough on the shows - I do wish they would develop their own careers and maybe fight again on a higher stage (if they make that level) for more money later on.

I don't think the show is making them choose this path, if they want to go this route then surely its their call.

Everyone should remember they saw highlights not fights.

I remember Villa bought Savo Milosovic and Bobo Balaban based on highlight reals.....

Didn't get them anywhere did it.....

Gomez is gutsy and works hard but he's not world class.

They are now tied to a promotional contact with the Contender producers - not sure how long it lasts for though.

Hence making these matchups - but it will be good money for the fighters no doubt as it will sell.

They're now promoting Mora too so will be interesting to see what they do with him next.

Perhaps not, but then is Carlos Maussa? They also showed the full Gomez vs Brinkly fight in the final.
