Montiel vs. Briceño world title fight.

Post by sconradojr »

I was lucky enought to view this fight in person at MGM Grand Hotel in Las vegas. This was part of the Hopkins Taylor Undercard. Briceño is a boxer from Nicargua who fights at 112lbs. Any ways he was offered a title fight at 115lbs as a last minute replacement for Eric Morel who as we all know was recently suspended. Even though I think that briceño lost he really took it to Montiel so much in fact that Montiel was booed off the ring. Briceño is uncorrectly ranked at 115 lbs. He should be ranked back at 112lbs. Briceño is ranked #9 in the WBC at 112lbs as well as various regional orgnizations (latin, centro, fede caribe, etc.) in the WBA.

Fight news and Espn wrote the following about the fight.

WBO jr bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel (31-1-1, 24 KOs) scored a workmanlike twelve round unanimous decision over late sub Everet Briceno (21-3, 17 KOs). Montiel used his boxing skills to most of the first nine rounds. The well-conditioned Briceno came on strong in the last three rounds, but it was too little, too late. Scores were 118-110, 117-111, 117-111. Note: Briceno took the fight on nine days notice after original opponent Eric Morel was suspended by the NSAC

Evert Briceño.

Briceño has only made two fights at 115lbs. They wore both loses. One to William Gonzalez and the other against world champion Fernando Monitel. Team INVESTA boxer briceño only took this fight because it was a worl championship chance even though he was moving up a weight. This fight was taken on a little less than 8 days notice.

Evert Briceño weight class.

Post by sconradojr »

Everts real weight class is 112 lbs. He only fought for the 115 lb WBO championship because he was the only fighter willing to take a fight like that on 8 days notice as a last minute substitute. Please put him back at fly weight where he belongs. Thank you.

Briceño moved up from 112 to 115 just for one fight. He was given an opportunity to fight a world championship on 8 days notice against Fernando Montiel after Eric Morel was suspended. This fight was offered to multiple fighters with no one accepting the bout. Briceño had just fought the 1st of July and was brave enough to take the fight on such short notice. Briceño is ranked in the WBC number 9 in 112 lbs and for some reason number 9 in the WBO. On another note a Nicaraguan fighter named William Gonzalez is ranked in the top ten at 112 lbs while he has never done a fight in that category. We send letters to multiple organizations in order to get our fighters ranked and for some reason these organizations some times miss place our boxers in the wrong organizations. Evert is also ranked number 5 in fedecentro (WBA) for some reason at 108 lbs. Please, I would greatly appreciate it that you place evert back at flyweight.

I think it's also worth noting that the fella from Nic had not only taken the fight on short notice, but had just fought 2 weeks before as well.

Briceno vs. Montiel II?????

Post by Nica2005 »

I think that if they dance again Montiel looses his Tittle....
Because Briceno now Knows He can Fight at the championship level not to Mention The Fact that Montiel Hit him with his best shots and could not hurt him like when he knock the mouth peace out of Briceno and guess what Briceno just kept comming.

Hopefully Briceno Get another Chance and even if its not against Montiel which ever champion takes on this kid specially if its at 112 which is his natural weight better be prepare cause this kid briceno looks like a future champ.....
