Alex Arthur v Boris Sinitsin
Third good card in a row this ITV Sport. Looks like an interesting fight to me, Sinitsin is a decent EBU champion and Arthur is a talent, but with some question marks still to erase. I like Alex in this fight, he has the talent to beat Sinitsin, and answer some of those questions. Disappointing support though for a 2 hour show.

I agree with Dan's view. I think their respective displays vs Craig Docherty indicates that Arthur is quite rightly the favourite. However, he hasn't fought anyone of Sinistin's stature since Gomez and we all remember what happend them.
Sinistin is good enough to test this "new improved" defence of Arthur but might not have the power to inflict the damage that Gomez did - but unlike in the Gomez fight I don't think Arthur will hurt Sinistin.
I expect Arthur's youth to prevail in a fairly wide decision (I believe he HAS improved since Gomez and is knocking on the door of world class) however, I think its an acid test for Arthur. If there isn't that improvement then Sinistin might sneek home with the decision.

It will be interesting. Ken Buchanan was complaining that Arthur wasn't sparring enough. Regardless of whether that's true or not, he looked very muscular last week, and said he'd timed his training far better than against Doc.
I'm slightly biased, and Sinitsin is no pusherover, but I'll go wild and plump for Sinitsen to be stopped in the late rounds

If Arthur stops Boris it will be an excellent result.jomothepure wrote:It will be interesting. Ken Buchanan was complaining that Arthur wasn't sparring enough. Regardless of whether that's true or not, he looked very muscular last week, and said he'd timed his training far better than against Doc.

No round by round sorry but the early going was tight and Arthur was cut on both eyes, Sinitsin didn't offer much going forward but was sharp and countered with some good solid shots but Arthur gradually started to break him down around the tenth. Arthur dropped Sinitsin in the 12th with a left hook...i think the scores were 119-109, 119-109 and 118-109 although i could be wrong.
That was Alex Arthur at his best.
He has very good punching power at the weight but showed improvement in not relying on it.
He really has all the punches in the book, and a real gent in and outside the ropes.
He could have gone for the KO in the last and certainly in the last 10 seconds but allowed Sinitsin to see the round through, the viewers could see that and that will only help Arthur.
A genuine world title may just be that little bit out of his reach but I really hope I`m wrong because he is one of my favourite British fighters at the moment, and he is a real good advert for the sport, he really is class.
I see a bright future for the Amazing Alex Arthur now ITV are showing his fights, and he deserves every bit of it

He's using his huge height and reach advantage now which is seeing the benefits. He is now looking very impressive - that defeat looks to have done him the world of good.
I had the impression (and he did whisper something to Boris) that he held back after putting him down which, if true, shows alot of respect for a decent champion and is a very nice touch.

I always thought Sinistin was made for Arthur to be honest - On saying that Arthur can beat a lot of fighters, but my own personal feeling is they need to keep him away from fighters with some fizz in their shots.
Sinistin, Limond and Docherty are not the heaviest of hitters.
I'll set my stall out and say he will lose when he is in with someone who has some power shots in their arsenal - He's easy enough to hit.

Excellent performance and result for Alex. Have to say I shat it a tad when he was cut in the third, but he got better and better as the fight went on. I agree with you're thought Stu - I was sitting there and thinking he could finish Sinitsin off in the 12th, but I much prefer thinking of him the gentleman letting the old war horse go out with fidgnity
Next? I really don't want him to rush things ie. try to get a world title fight. He'll only be 7 or 8 in rankings anyway. a few EBU defences would do the trick. Nagy seems the obvious candidate in line but I don't know whether he is involved in WBO fights at all. As for what's left at domestic level (ie. before he drops the titles and leaves us Limmond-Doc) It would be Gomez or Burns. Gomez would probably be his most lucrative pick outside a world title fight, although whther he would want another fight is obviously one for Alex and his inner carma. Plus Gomez seems to have gone saling around a flat world. Burns I feel is too younf and innexperienced which would make it an ambarassment for Arthur if he lost and an embarassment to both if Burns lost in anything easier than a bloody SD.
Anyway, well done Alex

Yes, a good performance by Arthur whom I had a wide points winner. He has shown a lot of character after the Gomez loss by altering his Boxing style and out of ring conduct. It's always a great sign when a young prospect is willing to learn by his mistakes.
I think a few defences of his European Title and one or two 10 rounders against some good overseas opponents should set him up well before going for a World Title.

The fact that Arthur is now the first Scot to hold British, Commonwealth and European titles since Jackie Paterson should be something to cheer about, but for me it was quite... sobering. People say boxing has moved on but I'm not so sure.
Arthur sold many seats at his local leisure centre, but there's a good chance many more turned up at 2pm to the Astoria Ballroom on Sauchiehall Street that Wednesday when Jackie fought his rubber match with Jim Brady, for the Commonwealth title.
Over FORTY THOUSAND turned up in an open-air, standing room only Hampden Park STADIUM, during thunder and lightining, to watch a flyweight fight for a bantamweight domestic title on a dismal, wet Wednesday night.
Even Mike Tyson didn't get that when he turned up five years ago. In fact, he barely scraped half that attendence number.

I'd have thought the thing to do for Arthur is make 2 or 3 EBU defences and get the Lonsdale belt (if he hasn't already) and wait for Morales, Barrera and Pacquiano to get beat or step up in weight then as EBU champ he'd a be a good bet to get a shot for any vacated title(s). Mind you, I don't know anything about the other world superfeatherweight titles, but you'd think one of them would be beatable. Of course there's some good domestic match-ups around as well - maybe that would be better for ITV.
Patterson vs Brady
Ah, "the days when Champions and Contenders fought each other every night of the week!"
I love that statement, can't remember who wrote it(?).
Jim Brady another forgotten great, a tough little Scottish warrior from Dundee... but fought out of England - I think.
Anyway WELL DONE - Alex Arthur - "Go west young man!" To America.
