Hatton signs Ashley Theophane

Post by stevek3lly »

Just read this. Interesting signing and improves his book of fighters being a current champion. Be interesting to see more of Ashley as well as not had too much exposure over here.

A good move, i agree - i guess with FW taking his fighters away from Sky there will be more dates to fill and so the likes of Hatton will need a bigger stable.

Interesting to see how it all plays out.

Don't know why but I think talk of Richard Keys has influenced the choice of pic here:

So Hatton has the champion at 140 and 147.... plus a fair selection of leading contenders in both divisions.....

Doesn't bode well for Frankie Gavin's title ambitions in the next year or so.

Suspect he'll go another route, one well-trodden by FW's prospects - especially seeing, as you point out, that Hatton has got things tied up to a degree domestically.

Surely, though, he's gonna campaign at 140? He'd get KO'd at welter as soon as he steps out of domestic class, for my money. To be honest, looking at his frame, i can't see why he cant make lightweight but i guess better boxing brains than me have thought that and discarded it! There must be a reason, i guess ...

Stevek3lly has just pointed out to me, Hatton now has 5 British champions, could soon be 6.

Crolla, Murray, Buckland, Theopane and Aaron, with Quigg fighting for it next month. Impressive stable Ricky, good on you

That is an impressive stat. He's got Vassell as well he's doing well.

Hatton is quietly going about his business and getting an impressive stable built there! Best of luck to him, Theophane is a great addition IMO. :bag:
keeping them all happy could be the hard part.

Its a good move on Hatton part.... naturally Theophane vs Vassell might be one for the future.

I don't think Theophane has confirmed beyond doubt that he is the streets ahead of the competition at domestic level... I think there are some good fights for him, Nigel Wright being an excellent start.... He's doing very well though and well ranked. Hatton has a good relationship with GBP - so who knows, maybe a world title tilt could happen sooner now.

I agree, but i guess you'd rather have a quality stable like Hatton and have the 'nice' worries as opposed to have no one (apart from Fury) like Hennessy......

It'll be interesting to see what happens when allegedly launches properly and FW's fighters are no longer on Sky sports, Surely theres scope for Hatton to get in there and get some of these fighters on show regularly???
Agree, i can see Hatton and Matchroom getting more dates. Depending how well allegedly goes, i can see a few FW fighters leaving and joining up with Hatton and Matchroom.

The bigger issue with Hatton's whole business is that I just can't see how it's financially sustainable in the long-term.

What I'd say for Hatton Promotions is that they deserve to do well for looking at modern methods of broadcasting shows. Hope they will. Don't know too much about the finances there, but didn't he pay a million for his brother to get Lovemore Ndou over, that's not something that will dent the finances annually... Hopefully they get the rub of the green, think Ricky could really do with it too (from an participation perspective). As I say though, don't know details of the finances, sure Deserter would have a better idea than I.

It's got to be tough for all the promoters these days hasn't it?

My sums could be way off, but so far it seems the best way to make a small fortune from boxing is to start off with a big one.

Unfortunately that's a pretty accurate summary in most cases!

He's actually quite tall, the best part of 5'10''.

I think people are fooled into thinking he's a midget because he fights quite short..... obviously his diet has been an ongoing issue, but he's only made 140 once as a pro. Personally I think he's alright at 147 assuming he works on a few things, mainly filling out into the weight. His natural weight is probably somewhere in between, I'd rather him stick at the higher weight rather than put miles on the clock making the lower weight.

What a terrific trade fight that would be, think the styles would gel so well, could see Ashley nicking this 1 tho.
